re-positioning & Alaska

My daughter is getting married in July 2004. She is interested in doing either a trans atlantic re-positioning cruise or an Alaskan cruise. If anyone can help me with the following questions I would greatly appreciate it.

1. Where can I find some information on any re-positioning cruises that may be taking place next July such as cruise line, ships, availability, costs, and ports?

2. If she chooses Alaska, who does everyone prefer, RCCL or Celebrity?

Which ships from these lines?

I heard that there are 2 different intineraries for this cruise. Which one is better and why?

What is the weather like during July in Alaska?

Is a 7 day cruise long enough or should she look at extended cruises?

Thank you in advance to everyone who replies to this message. We really appreciate your help!

Unfortunately, you will not find a repositioning cruise in July. Repositioning cruises take place only when cruiselines move their ships from one itinerary to another at the beginning/end of a cruise season. Transatlantic cruises are, in fact, repositioning cruises when ships move from the Caribbean to Europe in late spring for the summer season, and then back again in the fall. Similarly, ships are moved to/from the Caribbean for the Bermuda, Alaska and trans-canal run, again sometime in the late spring and early fall.

Re Alaska cruises, there are roundtrip loops out of Vancouver and one-way northbound/southbound cruises out of Seward. Tavel to and from Vancouver is easier than travel to/from either Fairbanks or Anchorage, but if a trip to Denali is in the offing, you'll need to look at one-way cruises only. Some itineraires include Glacier Bay, while others visit Hubbard Glacier instead. While both are impressive, Glacier Bay is a must see in my opinion. Weather in Alaska is, in a word, unpredictable. We've done five Alaska cruises and have had weather that was warm and sunny, cool and rainy, and various combinations thereof.

The choice between RCI and Celebrity is a personal one. We've done many cruises, including Alaska, on both lines. Celebrity is our favorite, but I don't thing you can go wrong with RCI either.

I think the Radiance class ships of RCI would be GREAT for the Alaska itineraries because the ships are stunning, have a lot of spacious inside areas, and there is sooo much glass for viewing from the inside out. However, you can't go wrong with Celebrity either.

Hello. I just heard about re-positioning cruises last month and looked into them myself. I googled "repositioning cruises" and a few sites came up with specific information.

A great source is to go directly to the company/cruise lines. I have a great young gal named Cynthia with vacationstogo.com and her number is 1-800-338-4962 X 357. She or her manager might be able to tell you more.

They sound FABULOUS.

We are booking now with Cynthia for our very first cruise...a shorty to the Mexican Riviera for ELEVEN DAYS. (We are exhausted and need to just stare at the ocean from "VINTAGE CANOPIED STEAMER CHAIRS on teak decks"! 11 days!!)

Just barely enough for ME. I don't know if 7 days will do it, but hey, sure beats a poke in the eye with a hot stick!
