I was curious if anyone has ever gone to the port on their cruise day and been denied enterence on to the cruise because they couldn't provide correct documents . I'm just curious what would happen to the guy that tried to board with just his Drivers license and cruise ticket.. what would they do?

This happened to my aunt once in LAX for a three day Ensenda cruise. They just had her fill out a card stating that she was a US citizen. But...this was BEFORE 9-11 so I am sure it is much different now. I am certain that you will have to present valid proof of citizenship. Now they would probably deny you boarding.

I lost my passport, but we can get on with a state certified birth certificate, it has to have a seal....

so... if you got that your fine.. and a picture id (who doesn't carry their license???)

Funny - I read a thread just yesterday on of the discussion groups here that a whole group of Puerto Rico Citizens were denied to go onboard in San Juan, because their travel agent wasn't licenced to do business, and therefore they were not on the passenger list. I think it was a Royal Caribbean ship.

The above scenario would be my worst nightmare, so even when I book through a TA or on the internet, I always check with cruise line directly whether I am in the system.

Now it depends on how Homeland Security views whatever documents a person is holding. If HS would allow a person to re-enter the US with certain documents then the cruiseline would allow the person to board with those docs. This is because if the cruiseline allowed one to board with bad docs, upon the ships return to home port HS would not allow that person to debark and the ship would be stuck with that person. Great for the person, bad for the cruiseline. Also the ship would probably have to pay some kind of fine.

So before you can get on the ship, you have prove you'll be able to get off the ship.
