I had put off posting this, but can't wait any more.
I have gotten a whole lot less mobile lately, I haven't been to a mall in years, and it is getting harder and harder to get through a grocery store, so I have decided I need an electric scooter. But, the Maxima will not hold one.
So I made the decision last month to look for a van or suv that would hold one in the back. I had the cost of the van, scooter and installing a lift for it to consider.
I called my son to tell him to keep a lookout for one for me, but I wouldn't be able to buy one until January when I could get to my IRA.
He told me that a friend (Jane) had called a member of his congregation who was in a wheelchair and said she had a van to sell that was scooter lift equipped. But, that woman needed a wheelchair lift so it wouldn't work for her. TJ said why don't call Jane and ask her if she still has it.
So, I gave her a call. Her husband had bought the van in July, but he died a couple months later and she didn't have any use for it. She said she had been holding onto it until she found someone in the congregation who could use it. Enter me! She said it not only was lift equipped, but she would let the scooter go with it also. She said waiting until January was not a problem so she brought it in for me to test drive.
It is not what I would have ordered if I had a choice, base model, manual windows and doors and only a 4 cylinder BUT it is a 2003 Chrysler Voyager, and besides the value of the scooter and lift, it only has 12,500 miles on it. Barely broken in. And, exactly the price I had decided I could pay without the scooter and lift. How could you pass that up? I couldn't, so I told her I wanted it.
She called and said that she is actually going to let me go ahead and take it on Friday.
Since the Maxima's insurance is paid until May, I had decided I would keep it for when I had a need for speed, (lol) but another friend asked me if I would sell it to her, as is, so I think I will do that. That is going to hurt, I love my money pit. But it has to go, lol.
Here's hoping for some good weather until I get used to driving it. I totalled a car on the ice many years ago, and am a little timid when it is slippery since then.
I am excited! I drive cars until they fall apart under me, so getting a new one is a big deal. Plus the scooter! I have shopping trips planned, and the zoo and museum and all the things I haven't been able to walk to do.
