My wife and I have booked our on the Caribbean Princess on 9/18/04. Being this is our first cruise, we are not sure what to expect at the port. I'm wanting to know if we can rent a car at the port or do we have to find transportation to the airport to rent a car. Also is there transportation to the airport other than a taxi?

Other than a taxi to the airport, the only option would be the Princess transfer bus... but a taxi is the best way as the airport is only about 10 minutes from the port.

The Hertz shuttle bus picks up & drops off at the pier, to and from their facility, which is off-airport. Don't know about the other agencies.

Thank you for that information. Do you hace any idea how often the Hertz shuttle bus runs?

It just kind of runs back & forth as needed. I think the schedule is every 15-20 minutes, but it's based on when there are people at the port. You can call them and they'll send it if you don't see it - get the local phone number from their web site. Hertz is only about 5 min from the port -- they're in Dania, about 2 miles from the port.

I'm not sure I understand your question. Could you please clarify which port you are referring to. If it is the port the cruise starts from and you are arriving by air, usually a taxi is the best way to get to the ship. If it is one of the ports you are stopping at during the cruise, in the Caribbean it is again best just to hire a taxi to take you where you want to go. The price is usually comparable to renting a car and a cab is way more convenient and time effective.
If it is arriving back at the port at the end of the cruise, just take a taxi back to the airport.

If your at Ft. Lauderdale when you return. There's various rental car agencies with shuttles from the terminal. If you use Hertz. Use FLL not Port Everglades for your pick up location. Your rental will most likely be more expensive if you use Port Everglades. And in reality. They are the same location.
Just make sure your Porter dosen't take you outside and dump you. If he/she dose not
take all the way to the Hertz bus insist they do. Why if they catch that your not sure what your doing. Some will just take you outside the terminal doors and say "it'll be right here in a minute." Then you find out it's way at the other end where you catch the Hertz bus.
Learned that one the hard way years ago.
