We will be taking the ferry from downtown seattle to Victoria the day before we cruise. Any suggestions for good restaurants? Also, what are the don't miss things to do in just one day?

I recommend Butchart Gardens which is about 20 mins north by car. And for a World class restaurant..(and pricing $$$$$) the Sooke Harbour House

You don't say when you are going to be there but here is info direct from the Gardens in reply to a question I asked a while ago. You should do a ships tour to hit those early dates and times I think depending on when your ship actually gets there...... for the rest of the summer things are more flexable. Tours are available from downtown Victoria near the center of town and the Harbour. It's a fair piece from the dock as I recall....but its been a while since i was there. So unless your into a brisk walk the cab fare would likely defeat the price difference. Lots of tourist assist places throughout downtown/harbour area/

Garden Hours:::::
"Our summer season begins on June 15th with gates closing at 10:30pm. We are
however, staying open on a few dates prior to June 15th to accommodate some of
the early cruise ships. These dates are May 21, 28, 29, June 4, 5, 11, 12, when our
gates will close at 8pm, grounds at 10pm. "

Our ship won't be stopping there, our cruise leaves Seattle on July 30th, we plan to take the ferry over on July 29th (Thursday). Do you know how I could check and see how many ships may be in port that day?

For Victoria restaurant-Barclays right downtown-excellent steak and seafood.
For the person who asked about the cruiseships on July 29th -Sorry none in that day.On the 30th there is the Diaamond Princess and the Oosterdam.
For Butchart Gardens either go to the bus terminal where they have buses that go directly there.Not sure of their price.It is on Blanshard-opposite the Spaggheti Factory or you can catch the 75 city bus which will take you there.It only runs approx. every hour and price is $2.75 each way.
Enjoy Victoria it is a beautiful city!

a few years ago we went to Victoria for our anniversary. We had a great dinner at the Ocean Pointe Resort. You can take one of the water taxis accross the harbor. The service, food, and views to the Parliment Building lit up at night are spectacular.
