While I did think of going to the MDR, I was just too lazy to do so (the buffet is on deck nine - the restaurants are on deck three).  Besides, figuring out how to get breakfast quickly without cutting in line is challenging and fun.  That said, I have, on only a few occasions, gone to the MDR for breakfast (mostly on the Freedom of the Seas, but also on other ships).
