Riviera or Main Deck??

This is my first cruise, so my questions may seem elementary to most of you. We are booking the Sensation leaving from New Orleans on March 21(ocean view), but have no idea how to choose a deck. Can someone explain the difference in riviera and main deck? Is there a certain cabin location we should try to get?

Thanks!

i have only cruised once so i am not an expert but i will try to help you out. on the carvival spirit the riviera deck is the lowest deck, the main deck is a deck above the lobby. the higher up in decks and closer to the front of the ship you are is were you will feel more of the ships motion in the waters. lower decks and cabins located more towards the middle or in the back of the ship helps to prevent sea-sickness. go to the carnival site and bring up your ship. it will show all the deck plans and you will be able to see where your cabin is if you have one picked out already.
i hope this helps. have a great time.

Being in the middle of the ship is also easier to get to either end. Several upper decks are also only available from the elevators at either end of the ship so being in the middle is great!

We were on the Riviera deck on the Conquest, which is still well-above sealevel, and it was fine. If its cheaper, I would say go for it...

Sunny ,

I've been on both the Rivera and Main in past cruises and really there isn't much difference. I'd much rather take a Riveria outside cabin then a Main inside.
Riveria is $20 - $30 less then the Main deck too...

If you can get a Main Deck Outside cabin for the same price as the inside Riveria , you've got yourself a good deal.

If you want to splurge for about $50 more, the Empress deck is probably the best deck to be on. It is the fourth deck up, and is on the same level as the beginning of the atrium. But between the Riviera or Main Deck, I'd say the Main--definately.

Hi there! We were on the main deck on the Elation which I believe is a sister ship to the Sensation. We had OV cabin M77. It was awesome.

We are booked for another cruise in December on another sister ship, the Paradise. We booked an OV guarantee (which means we are guaranteed an oceanview cabin on the Rivera deck at the least) and I'm hoping we'll get upgraded to either the Upper or the Empress deck. Nothing wrong with Main deck but it's further from the action.

We just got back yesterday from a cruise on the Carnival Sensation. We stayed on the Riviera Deck, mid ship, with a window. It was fine except for a little vibration from being so close to the engines below us. It wasn't bad enough to keep you up at night and you arent really in the cabin much anyway. The service and attention you are given is the same no matter where you are located. My wife liked the constant humming because it drowned out my snorring. LOL Next time I will try to get an outside cabin one or two decks higher.

This was our first cruise also and we can't wait to go again! What a good time!!!!

Empress Really is the best Deck. i was on Riviera.. Really low - it was quiet but you might be able ot hear the thrusters and engines as you are closer to them. we stayed in the very last 2 rooms at the end o the hall. it was quiet but very far from places. get midship if ya can
