Room and Deck Question

Our cruise leaves next week, July 26 from New Orleans. I was just looking at our documents on line and saw that they have our room number already on there. We have been put on the Riviera Deck, and from what I can gather it is the lowest deck on the ship. Our room is at the front, near the elevators and stairs. Question is...Is the Riviera Deck good? =huh I have heard the closer you are to the water, the better off you are...don't know why though. Also, being at the front of the ship...good or bad? =huh This is only the second cruise I have been on and the last one was about 5 years ago...so I don't remember much.

Thanks for any and all input...it's appreciated. :daisy

Ahoy Matey and =welcome to cruise @ddicts.

You didn't mention if you had an inside or ocean view. Personally I prefer an ocean view on Riviera Deck forward. I love to look out my window and see the bow wake coming from the ship below my window. Sometimes you get llucky and see dolphins swimming in the bow wake. That has happened to me a few times. The motion is a little less on the lower decks. If you are toward the front, If the ship drops anchor in any of the ports, you will likely hear the rattle of the anchor chain. Best alarm clock noise I ever heard. :thumb

Thanks for your response. We have an ocean view, which I am very excited about. I know from the room number and looking at the deck plans that we have a window and not port holes. I have heard from others that the Riviera Deck is usually the best. My two girls will also be with us...14 and 16...and looking forward to enjoying this vacation with them

Thanks again!!

As I said, Ocean View, Riviera Deck forward is my choice. You'll love it. Enjoy your short countdown

Wishing you sunny skies and smooth sailing.

Bon Voyage

Okay, as I understand it you have a category 6A cabin. Since you didn't know your cabin number before, I assume you booked a guarantee cabin. I don't know if you booked and inside guarantee, in which case you were upgraded, or an ocean view guarantee, in which case you got what you booked, but at a slight discount.

I have not been in a 6A on any Carnival ship, though I have been in a 6B and the equivalent of a 6A on a similar sized ship owned by Royal Caribbean (it was the Monarch of the Seas). From my personal experience while you are in the cabin you can't tell the difference between a cat 6A and and cat 6D.

There are two advantages to being on the lowest deck. When the ship is docked (except for the home port) or when anchored (meaning you tender to shore on one of the lifeboats) you are closer to the deck where you board and/or disembark the ship.

The other advantage is because you are closer to the water line, there is less roll (side to side motion) of the ship.

Also, you are not on the lowest deck. You are on the lowest passenger deck, but the crew sleeps below you, so there are decks below you.

The disadvantage of being on the Riviera decks is that everything on the ship is above you - several decks above you. If you like climbing stairs, that can be a good thing.

And finally, being down low means that during high tide, if the water gets high enough, then you get to look out your window and see the fish swimming along the ship - kind of cool actually.

I have been on Riviera deck, Empress Deck, Lido deck and Upper deck.
They all seem the same to me except the Lido was by far better because it was just a short walk to a lot of things.
I like the ocean view staterooms just fine and you will have a great time.
