Being new to the whole cruise experience, my wife and I are scheduled to sail on the Sensation soon. One quesiton that has been nagging both of us is the location of our booked room...R298. This room and the one above are both on interior of port-side ALL BY THEMSELVES. What gives? We have two little ones (5,2 1/2) coming with and I'm worried about sound/noise and such.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

BeakerSC ...........

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but you are right next to the smoke stack, and in the lowest level. If you will notice there is a blank space on all the floors. This is where the exhaust fumes have to travel up through the smoke stack. On the Rivera Deck you will also be very close to the engines, and that far aft, probably right over them. And when the Captain cranks up those TWO Turbo Charged Sulzer Main engines there can be a whole lot of shaking going on if you are trying to sleep right over them.

I have stayed in and exterior cabin across the hall and about 10 cabins away from a smoke stack 8 floors up and you could hear the gentle rumblings of the exhaust at night when the ship is cruising full speed.

IMHO... I would talk to my T/A and try to get another cabin in light of your small children...

I hope ya'll have a GRRRRREAT cruise ~~!!~~

Great. ...now I know why the price was "right". I'll see what I can do to change this.

If anyone else has any experience with these types of room, I'd still like to know what we're in for if we can't change....ugh.

Thanks

We have stayed in rooms simialr to yours before. It wasnt too bad except when they went into port. It was noisy during the time they were docking or stoping. I am not sure why but that was the only time we had any noise problem. The rumble metioned above is not bad and kind of helps you sleep.

Hey, thanks all for the help.

I went through Orbitz.com and they were able to upgrade me to M80 with no cost. That helped!

I'd like to state here that all the information going around in these forums is HUGELY helpful to folks like us who've never before cruised! Is there a good place for "secrets of..."? I've heard of the "Kelly Method" and such, but is there anything like Las Vegas in terms of comps and such?

Again, thanks to everyone!

oh ps to my last message

The kelly method is to go on and look at gifts and services .. If you know your room number just pick something for your basket .. I pick the cheapest thing like the chocolate carnival ship and put in your name and the cabin number

Then it will come back and say .. Okay that is cabin number for blah blah blah , your name if you know your own cabin number .. and its cool to see your name come up in that cabin and you know then you have that cabin ..

Now they say , that if you dont know your cabin number , you just keep punching in cabin numbers until your name comes up .. you know R1 R2 R3 on and on to like 224or something and then M 1 M 2 M 3 etc on and on and all the way up to the last deck of passengers.
time consuming but hey what else is there to do while you are waiting till your ship comes in .. .?

and just dont order .like dont put in a credit card number.. .. and you wont get charged . NOw anyone wanting to SEND

a

BASKET OR GIFT TO MY ROOM TO THE FANTASY ON THE 22 of MAY TO CABIN M 30

FEEL FREE TO DO SO

Yes, I'm active duty in the USAF. I asked my Orbitz agent today about any deals from Carnival for military members and she said they didn't know of any. Are you suggesting while on board, Sara? Military ID, I take it?

I would like to ask a question about cat.12 on Carnival Sensation. The cabin # U 76.

Has anyone been in the cat. that could tell us a little about the cabin as to storage for your clothing, the bathroom size, tub whirpool? , Balony size and can you get two lounge chairs?. How about outlets?

Really just anything you can tell us will help.

We will be sailing in two weeks.

Thanks so much in advance for any info you cruise addicts have.

Yo! Scotts,

There's six big drawers in the vanity, a walk-in closet with additional shelves and room for hang-ups, a safe, a fridge, a bar with lots of glasses, TV, VCR, a sectional living room with wrap-around couch, coffee table and chairs, Living room opens to a 70 sq. ft. balcony that has two pvc chairs and a little drink-table. I've read that you can ask for deck chairs, but we didn't need them.

There's two outlets at the vanity, two in the living room near the bedroom partition and two at the bathroom sink. I'd still bring an extension cord for mobility. Pretty good sized bathroom and a whirlpool that nearly blew us out of the tub.

Pretty nice cabin...about 400 sq. ft. including the balcony. Much nicer than what I had in the Navy. We're spoiled rotten now and don't quite know how to downgrade from here.

We did the cat 12 on the Imagination, but they're the same as Sensation.

Hope this helps.

Feliz Crucero!

There is a "Military Discount" with Carnival. I retired from the Air Force in 2001 and I'm eligible for one Cabin at the discounted price. Active duty are entitled to 2 cabins at the reduced price. I'm sailing on the Pride June 14-21, and made my reservations 3 weeks ago. They offered cat 4 at $1064.20 (total for 2), Cat 6 at $1364.20. At that savings, I opted for the Cat 8a (balcony) guarenteed for $1789.00. That includes everything, taxes, port charges, etc. If any military would like to check the rates, you can go to www.cruiselocators.net/carncruises1.html. The guidelines can be found at www.airlineticketsetc.com/destinations/cruises/militarydiscount.html. I told my wife that I got an outer with a window for that price. I can't wait to see her face when she sees the balcony!!!

I've been checking the prices online, and noone can touch these rates!
I'm glad my 21 years of military service was worth something!!!! lol

Yo! Scotts,

I can't remember what channels/networks are on TV. We didn't watch it much at all.
I know there is a channel that runs the "Movie of The Day" continuously, and several "on-Board Activities" channels, and a channel that's supposed to access your Sail & Sign account, although we couldn't get it to work. Maybe another poster can help with the TV stuff.

BTW, "Feliz Crucero" is spanish for "Happy Cruise". My name is Ray. (and I'm not even spanish). So........once again.....Feliz Crucero!

I did not know about the discount for military veterans.. Both my husband and me are vietnam era vets and I didnt know we could get a discount on the cruise..

and yes BEAKER , bring your active duty card... Im sure that we all are grateful for your service to our country and that you will find some perks on board ... I had read somewhere the carnival was giving some kind of discounts on board or something
BUT THANK YOU AND YOUR FAMILY for protecting us and serving in this great country

and always use your military discounts..

Excellent choice! I just sailed Pride 8A a month ago. The room is going to look very small upon entering but you will get used to it fast - it is laid out excellently. There are 3 closets near the door (only 1 has shelves), a vanity with a couple drawers, 2 twin beds which will be pushed together to make a queen size, and there is a bed that pulls out of the couch and a bed that pulls out of the ceiling. Your wife will be thrilled with the balcony - it is great to just go out there and sit. There are two chairs and a small table out there. BE WARNED that the whole ship runs on 220V and there are only (2) 110V outlets in your cabin - one at the vanity and one in the bathroom. Also I would not recommend the room for more than three people - I went with my parents and if there were another person in there we would be pretty cramped.

Some pictures of my cabin are at http://users.adelphia.net/~loseby/cruise/ .

I'd be glad to answer any other questions about the Pride while the ship is still fresh in my mind.
