I've been on 6 Royal Caribbean cruises and they have all had safes. I think we used our room card to open it. Never had a problem with it. We always kept our money, passports and other valuables in it.

On the Navigator of the Seas they had the keypad where you enter a 4 digit code. I was actually surprised, never seen that on a cruise ship before, and use it is safe.

I don't think you're supposed to use your room card to lock those safes.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe if you use your room card, the cabin
steward will be able to open the safe with his room pass card.

The best thing I've heard for those safes is to get a CVS or Walgreens
card or some other local store card that issues 2 copies of the same card.
That way each spouse has an access card.

Well I know that not every cabin on the Sovereign class has a safe. I haven't been in enough cabins on the other classes to say if they do. I don't recall what kind it was (number or card) on the Navigator or the Freedom. I do prefer the four digit number ones over the swipe the card ones, because if you are on the ship, you need to carry two cards around (one for the safe and one for the room). With the four digit number ones I just use a number that is easy to remember.

We have been on the Navigator twice and the Freedom as well as the Emerald Princess and ALL ships have had the "key pad" system. They even tell you in your final cruise compass/Princess Patter to NOT lock your safe when you leave because it's done by your own secret code and they would have to get security in there to reset it to open it if you do so. Hope this helps. We love this version and feel really safe.

Jewel and all the RD class use a key pad, so do all Vision Class except Legend and Splendour which have swipe card type.

Just got off the Voyager and they also had the keypad type safes. Of course ours was difficult to make the numbers appear on the LCD screen......you had to push the pad really hard! :lol My best friend and I were trying to decide what 4-digit number to use that we both would remember and finally decided on the street address of our office (we happen to work in the same building). I actually like the ones better where you have to swipe a credit card to get into the safe and then swipe it again to close it.

The problem is, if you are caught swiping the credit card, they will throw you in the brig.

We used the safe in our stateroom on the Enchantment.

NiteStar you just got off of the Voyager? WOW!!! The Voyager was docked next to the Enchantment in Cozumel earlier this week. Talk about huge! Amazing . . . . Awesome . . . My next cruise will be on the Voyager.
