Is room service on the Caribbean Princess (free) like on most cruise lines?

Thanks,
Alex

It is free in that no extra charge is posted to your shipboard account for room service. We ordered coffee and juice every morning by filling out the card that you will find in your cabin and placing it on the door. It was brought each morning at precisely the time we requested, hot and fresh. We did, however, give our cabin steward something extra for his trouble. So, if you tip extra for it, it is really not free.

There is no charge for food or coffee, tea, etc. Tips are expected.

There is a charge for alcohol or soda or specialty items, i.e. cheese tray, chocolate covered strawberries, etc.

By the way, apparently Princess now officially says that there is no need to tip room service as they are included in the pooled tips. Someone on another boards has called Princess twice and has gotten the same response both times. So, extra tipping would be at your discretion.

I understand you can obtain canned soda drinks in addition to the fountain drinks.
Are they only available by 'room service' and what do they charge for the canned sodas?
We will be on the Diamond Princess next month.

Fountain drinks are included if you get a soda card. Canned drinks are not. Room service delivers canned sodas, so you will be charged for them.

Appreciate the info .. but would like to know what they charge for the 'canned' soft drinks.

Last time I ordered soft drinks in a can it was $1.75 + tip. Came out to $2.01 I think. It may be more now.

When you come on board, you may go to any bar and for $22.50 get a sticker that goes on your room card. This allows you to drink as much soda in a glass as you wish. They also have a free tumbler to refill. When you get these drinks, be aware they are mostly ice, so you may want to order them without ice, as in the hot climates 2 or 3 sips doesn't do it.

Also, when ordering, order a large if you think you will drink that much...just makes it easier than having to re-order. The small drinks, when they have any ice in them tend to only give you a sip or two.

Re; canned pop, we bought some canned pop in St Marten and just carried it on board,( it was just a six pack) and kept it in the cabin frig. Great for rum and cokes on the balcony before dinner!
It is cheaper to do it that way, and obvoiusly allowed since we didn't "smuggle" it on( we just carried it openly)
