There are two ,but not every ship has both.......some dont even have one........but they are Chops(steakhouse) and Portofinos(Italian).......both are $20pp..........I like them both for different things..........cant really say i prefer one over another, but if I HAD to pick,I'd say Chops.......

Have only dined at the Portofinos, very good and really worth the 20 dollars. Haven't eaten at Chops, did look at the menu but it was not that intressting.

On my last cruise which was on the Mariner, I dined at both of their specialty restaurants. Based on my experience, Chops is the better restuaurant. I probably won't go back to Portofino's. Just my =twocents

I thought Portofinos was very good and worth the $20.00. I'll probably opt to try Chops on my upcoming cruise. :)

I do prefer Portofino's, but we were just on the Jewel and was disappointed in it. Much better on Explorer. It all depends on the Chef.

Has anyone known of passengers dining in the speciality restaurant on the last day of the cruise to dodge tips for their waiter and assistant waiter?

No and I dont think the people who spend extra $$$ at Chops would be the type to skip out on tips............we have eaten in the restaurants the last night and I can assure you, we dont stiff the waiters in the dining room.................

Hi,

We just came off the Jewel on Saturday and we ate at Chop's and Portofino's on both Formal Nights. In my opinion they are both excellent. The service in Chop's was better and the Filet just melts in your mouth. The food in Portofino's was very good, but the service was lacking. One person in our group didn't get his dinner until it was time for desert and his wife didn't want to eat without him so her meal was cold. The after dinner coffee took 35 minutes and should have come with desert. No one really seemed to care about the service failures. I would eat in both again because the food was that good.

Absolutely we filed a complaint. When I said that no one cared about the service failures, I meant NO ONE. We told the waiter we were not happy, the head waiter we were not happy and the Maitre D we were not happy. They wouldn't even waive the service fee, just an I am sorry it took so long. I told our friends who were staying in an Owner's Suite to talk to their Concierge about it. I never found out if they did or not. I have to say that this was our only glitch on the whole cruise. We found the service everywhere else on the Jewel to be outstanding.

Sorry to hear about Portofino and lack of service. Will talk with the Concierge later today and ask if your friends were in contact with her.

Best meal I ever had on a ship was the Filet at Chops on Navigator of the Seas. Outstanding food, service and well worth the $20 per person.

I loved portofinos - They were very accomodating. We brought our then 4 year old son on the cruise and he was very tired. The staff brought us extra chairs an pillows with a blanket. He slept next to us while we enjoyed the best Itilian food we have had.

Both specialty restaurants on RCI ships vary in quality and service. Some are fantastic and others are just so-so. My wife and I ave eaten in both on different ships. The most disappointing was Portafino's on the Empress of the seas. We had made reservations for Portafino's and changed when "Mystery drama"was to be performed on another night. The menu was changed from Italian to( believe it) a set menu from the main dining room menu of the night before.THAT'S LEFTOVERS! We saw the change, before we entered the dining room and cancelled immediately. We were able to avoid the additional charge.
