Hi. Wondering if the Royal Dolphin Swim at Chankanaab Park in Cozumel is worth the $120 cost. Any input would be appreciated.

Thanks.

This doesn't answer your question, but I tried to book the Royal Swim for 4/19 and the day was already entirely booked! So, if you decide to do it make your reservations early.

I think the cruise ships reserve times, but, at least on Carnival, the price goes up to $165. Might be better to go to Sea World.

We are booked the do the Royal Swim in April. We were the last people to book for our day in port through Dolphin Discovery. Royal Caribbean's pre-booking was full but they keep some spaces open for people to book once onboard.

You might try a search on this site for topics about this. There is a lot of very positive feedback that I've read. People love this excursion! Many say to do this vs. the Dolphin Encounter, because the encounter doesn't allow very satisfying interaction with the dolphins.

Also, we know someone locally who went and she said it was a highlight of her LIFE!

Yes, the dolphin swim is well worth the price. I booked through dolphindiscovery.com and not through the ship. It was the best thing we did on the entire cruise.

Dolphin Discovery is booked up for my cruise, too. Carnival books its excursions first come first served once you get on board, so I have to wait until then to reserve. My question is, if 3 of our party of 4 wants to swim with the dolphins and the other one just wants to watch, can she ride on the same Carnival arranged transport to the Park with us without paying the price for the whole swim piece?

Yes, it is absolutely worth the cost!! My sister and I booked the royal swim in Chankanaab and it was the best money I ever spent!

You are in the water with the dophins for about 45 mins, you will get a dolphin kiss, hold a pole for the dolphins to jump over, hitch a ride by holding their doral fins and the most fun, the foot push, having two dophins push you up and out of the water by the soles of your feet! These mammals are very gentle and you will be amazed at how powerful they are.

We booked our excursion through Princess, it cost $149 p/p, this did include the cab ride to and from the cruise pier, it did not include the $10 admission fee to Chankanaab.

If you have time after your swim, take a walk around Chankanaab, it is beautiful!

I would highly recommend this excursion!

We saw this website too and wondered if it was legitimate. Sounds like it was. Were you in the group with the people who booked this from the cruise line? We are on the Grand 3/14 and Princess is showing that this is completely full.

Thanks for the info.

I would strongly recommend getting off the ship and paying for taxi to Chankanaab by yourself. Once there you can purchase the dolphin swim or encounter on your own. There are plenty of taxis for ride back. Cruise companies may have priority first thing in the morning but they'll be glad to sell you the same activity for less. Cruise company doesn't make anything. I've been to Cozumel 4 times and each time I've gone to Chankanaab and had a great time. Wonderful beach, just a little commercialized, but lots of activities.

We booked the swim independently directly through www.dolphindiscovery.com. Including the cab ride it was about $20 per person cheaper than booking it through Royal Caribbean. The cab ride to Chankanaab park was $10 each way and the entry fee is $12 per person. There are cabs waiting at the entry of the park to take people back to port. It is a busy park and alot of cruisers go there, so the cabs line up in the parking lot waiting for customers.

I don't remember the name of our swim, but we got to kiss and be kissed by the dolphin, shake hand/flippers, ride his belly and swim with the dolphin (which was actually us treading water waiting for the dolphin to swim by so we could try and pet him). My friend felt it was worth the $100+ (I think that was the cost) we each ended up spending, but I didn't. It was phenomenal but I guess I am a cheapskate.

Also, we discovered too late that we were allowed to bring underwater cameras into the swimming area with us. If you have a friend/family member who is just watching, they are allowed into the swimming area and can take pictures or video from the dock right next to where you are are swimming (rather than just on the beachfront). I highly recommend this because, if you want to purchase a video of your swim it costs $35.00 and we bought two photos for $28.00.

have fun

Oh my gosh yes!!!!!!!!! I cannot say it enough, I loved the royal dolphin swim and even bought the video. This was the best part of my cruise besides the stingrays. They were pretty cool too. But the dolphins, I would even do it again. have fun and please try it. My son and his friend really regret not doing this excursion with me. I booked on line with cozumelinsider.com
