Rum Point, Grand Cayman

We are set to cruise RCCL Exployer during Thanksgiving week. Has anyone ever taken the Ferry to Rum Point? We like to snorkel and the beach looks nice. We were thinking 7 mile would be way too crowded, though November may be too cool(?).

Seven mile beach crowded? There's at least 5.5 miles of shoreline at 7 mile beach! Actually, when I've been out there, I've never seen it croweded! But, I'm not sure where the good snorkeling spots are, either. Seven mile beach seems more like a recreational shoreline to me, I could be wrong.

I have been there in November and always enjoyed warm and comforting weather!

Never been to Rum Point.

Been to Rum Point four times.

The ferry ride is slow and the time allowed there is not as long as I would like but the snorkeling is awesome as is the lunch you get with the package.

We bring our own gear for sanitary reasons but you can rent all you need at Rum Point. Look under the pier, very close to shore, and you may be very surprised with what is under there. Also look for rays buried in the sand, squid out by the rocks and the big cuda that is under the pier at times.

Except for the short duration, I highly recomend going out there.

BTW... It is not far from sting ray city but no way near as crowded in the water. In short, at times, Sherri and I were the only people snorkeling. :)

Glad to hear Rum Point was so great!! We are really looking forward to it! The web said the ferry is about a 40 minute ride. Do you recall how far it was from the RCCL ship port to the Ferry port? Can you walk? I believe the ferry leaves from the Hyatt Hotel. Yeah, I agree about being sanitary, we have our own snorkel gear. :)
We are set to sail to Grand Cayman on the RCCL line and did not see a Rum Point excursion, but there are lots of snorkeling excursions that do not necessarily state where the snorkeling takes place. Do you remember which excursion you took on the RCCL line? We like RCCL, this will be our 4th cruise with the RCCL line.

Thanks for the info!!! :)

More like a 30 minute ride once the darn ferry leaves. My thinking is it leaves at a certain time, which we are not privy to, so you sit for a while before leaving. Drink their cool aid that will be in front on the boat. Good stuff. :)

No way I would walk it. The bus ride is 15 to 20 minutes to get from the pier, you will tender in, to the ferry dock and the ferry is by the Hyatt.

Only way to go but we may be leaving the fins at home and renting them because we really like to pack light.

Whoopsi!

We noticed that Rum Point was not offered as a RCCL excursion so maybe they dropped it from their itinerary. :(

It specifically stated "Rum Point" each time we went there. We are Diamond members with RCCL and have 17 cruises with them. Be sure you call RCCL and affirm your Gold status with them for extra benefits while on board.

NP... Hope you find a way out to Rum Point if the excursion is no longer available. Perhaps getting off the ship ASAP and taking a taxi to the ferry will do it for you. You will need a ferry ticket but I have no idea where you can get one. Perhaps right at the ferry for all I know.
