Hello I am leaving on 12/14/03 on the Paradise and I am trying to finalize funds. I am planning on using a debit card and putting the 300 into the account to pay for the sail and sign of two people. Isn’t that the cruise line’s policy…$300, or is it $300 per person? In that case I am screwed. We don’t drink or gamble, so besides tips and maybe a picture, We are not planning on running up our bill~ Has anyone gotten away with putting less than the “required†amount? Please let me know and thanks for your help!

I believe when push comes to shove they will take less to secure your account.

From Carnivals web site.
What about money?
Sail & Sign
"Sail & Sign" is Carnival's cashless onboard credit program which allows guests to charge their purchases directly to their personal account for convenience throughout the cruise. Registration will take place during the embarkation process or onboard at the Purser's Office.

The following deposits are required per guest:
2 - 4 Day Cruises - $100 deposit per guest
5 - 8 Day Cruises - $200 deposit per guest
9+ Day Cruises - $350 deposit per guest

I was on the Paradise back in June and secured my account with a credit card on the last day I settled my account in cash and the credit card was never charged. So it was never brought up about a $300 deposit. I wouldn't worry if your debit card has a visa logo on it can be used the same way as a credit card.

Have a great time on your cruise. You will enjoy the fresh air on the Paradise.

It is my understanding a debit card will have a hold placed on it, so I'm not sure I would call that the same as a credit card. The funds have to be there for a hold to be possible.

Sharkin,
You are very right. The money does have to be there and they will place a hold on the amount. Even with a credit card paid at the end in cash they check daily to see that the funds are available.
