I am planning to cruise alone, Elation/Baja Mexico, in April. I would love to hear form other people who have sailed alone with some details on how it went. I am pretty out going and don't mind doing things new. The only port will be Cabo, and even though i have been before, we only got drunk and shopped. I wold like to do something differant this time. Thanks=docdance

I have sailed alone once in 2005 and again in about 7 days!!!!

I'm a pretty independent person, but I also am always concious that I am alone and that I should take precautions for that reason.

I made sure to book Carnival excursions as I knew then there would be lots of other people around. I didn't get in a taxi alone and ask them to take me somewhere (ie into town shopping). I guess just using common sense. So many people forget it at home lol

I had a blast on my last Carnival cruise. It was a 7 day West Carribean from Miami on the Triumph. This one will be a 8 day Exotic out of Fl Lauderdale on the Miracle.

The biggest downfall for me is not having the extra luggage limit on the airplane :)P)

For dinner I was sitting with a group of about 7 other single people. Some were in groups of 2 (ie two ladies) but we were all divorced, single, etc. At the pool I was never far from a conversation if I wanted one. The shows I didn't feel awkward being alone. In fact, I never felt awkward being by myself. Some of my dinner mates were women of my age group so we often went to the piano bar together after dinner.....or we would meet up for other things (casino etc). I had an ocean view room and they got upgraded to a balcony so we had a party in their room one night and I got to tour the balcony cabins.

As I said earlier, a little common sense goes a long way. You will have a great time I'm sure of it!!!!

Thanks for the adivice, glad you mentioned that. i have booked off the ship most times before, but sticking with Carnival exursions is a great idea for safety. I always meet people so easy on the ships so not too worried about that, so it will be nice if they seat me with other singles too. I can't imagine a cruise that isn't a blast. plz let me know how the next goes for you. I am not going until april, so i will be anxious to hear.

I'm on that cruise too. I'm cruising alone, so I hope Carnival is good about seating singles together. This is my first cruise, and my first trip to Cabo.

From what I have been hearing, here and on Cruise critic boards, there are usually quite a few singles on the ship and they do sit them together if possible. Doesn't necessarily mean you will like them though! =huh I picked the 8pm seating thinking maybe more solo travelers do the late dining, even though I usually go for the earlier dining, when I travel with group.
You aren't by any chance have a cruise on the Legend booked for this year do you?:)D On the Cruise Critic boards, we have a roll call going for the Elation 2/24 cruise, and the others also are on the Legend this year, LOL. Not all the same time though, was just wondering if it was a trend.:lol Check out that thread and join the crowd, (OK so far there only three of us LOL)
This is my second time in Cabo, but the first time I went, it was already our third port, so we found Margarittavilla, and then just shopped, being in no condition to do anything active! I am going to book the BOB Adventure, I think. My family and friends did it in St Thomas and loved it, plus I love snorkeling. Should be a little time to shop or walk around Cabo, or revisit Margarittavilla,

I just got back from cruise #2 alone. Everything was great, although there did not appear to be many single people on the cruise this time. I guess time of year, etc. However my dinner mates were very "interesting" characters on the first night. You truly never can tell what single person you will end up with lol! I'm in my mid 30's and was sitting at a table for 4. The first lady was 85 deaf and blind (we had to read the menu very loud to her) and the second was a gentleman that didn't change his clothes the whole trip, looked like a bum and drank directly from the coffee creamer dish. The GOOD NEWS is that the maitre d' moved them on night 2 upon my request...........the replacements were way better!!!!!

The ship I was on had alot of smaller tables and I chose the first sitting. Probably not the best choice, but I hate eating at 9 pm.

I am single, while most of my friends are married with kids and not in a position to cruise very often, if at all. Thus, I have cruised six times "solo" and will begin number seven this weekend. I enjoy myself, and get involved in a lot of activities. I have always met very nice people on the ship, and have even been invited to join them for meals, drinks, etc. I usually take the cruise line directed port activities as I like the security and organization of them, and it is another opportunity to meet people from the same ship. Having all of your time for yourself to plan can be a bonus.... but, more than anything do what you want and have fun, and don't wallow in the idea that you are "alone."
