We will be in San Juan in mid May and will only have about 8 hours. I would appreciate ANY info on the following. 1. Is transportation easily accessible at the port ( cab, shuttle) without booking thru Carnival? 2. How far from the port is Old San Juan? 3. What would you recommend to a first timer that only had 8 hours in San Juan? Thanks!!

Depends on the hours you will be in port. SOme ships dont get in til 4 or 5pm
Most things close at 5pm. (not the stores located within walking distnace from the pier)
I have a site I went to and mapped out out own walking tour. I prefer to do it on my own then trek though san juan with tons of other people and be held hostage to their schedule. I can tour on my own liesure. (make sure you are back onboard 30 minutes before sailing time...and check to see if the island time is different from Ship time before you get off the ship.

frommers has an excellent walking tour-- it states it takes 3 hours depending on how much time is spent at each site.

This is the best map ever

I just got back from their on Carnival Triumph. We walked the whole day. This map will give you ideas on what you can do and get started on. But when you walk off the boat, the culture tourism of san juan will be there. Take there information then walk to their office! If is only a 5 minute walk. You can get a better map of everything.

You will be getting off pier 4. If you stay left, you will see old san juan, if you go right. Well it is like Miami.

We walked to the fort you see when you pull in and it took about 15 minutes to talk too.

If you have any other questions, email me
grammer409@yahoo.com

I do not mind talking to you about it.

Have fun!!
