San Juan - Barcardi Rum factory tour available at night?

My wife and I will be cruising on Carnival’s Victory in June. One port is San Juan from 5pm-midnight.

I had thought that I read somewhere that the Bacardi Rum factory would be closed while we were in port at night. However on carnivals website, when I look at which excursions are available for my particular cruise, it lists
Bacardi Evening Experience which is 3.75 hours and costs $65/person.

Do they open special for cruise passengers only?

It seems like $65/person is a lot of money. But I don’t want to risk taking a taxi to the factory at 6pm and finding out that I cannot get in.

Has anyone done this? How much is a taxi to the factory for 2 people? How much is entrance to the factory for 2 people?

Any tips?

Id like to know what the "experience" is. perhaps they are doing something special for the cruisers. there is no admission charge to the factory.

I live in San Juan, I bet that tour is special for cruises passengers. I vahe never herd that the factory open at noght for tour....still you can contact the factory's visitors center. (787) 788-8400. The taxi ride will be expensive. The factory is on the other side of the bay. This email is for guests questions erubio@bacardi.com Their web site is www.bacardi.com

Hey Snorkelman
Did you ever get more info on this tour or perhaps you have already sailed and are back.
Any info you can share is most appreciated as I have a group of adults that want to try and do this on our own if we can.
Thanks,Renee

rdonte,
It looks like the original poster has already sailed, but I'll go ahead and add my $.02 about this excursion as it looks like you'll be sailing in 2006. I do not recommend taking the Bacardi tour at all. I was on the Victory in the East in May 2005 and Carnival did offer the night tour of the factory. I found it to be rather boring, especially for the price they charged ($65, I think). It's basically a boat ride followed by a bus ride to the factory where you are given a handheld recorded tourgide and you walk around and look at artifacts from the Bacardi family. Then you sit outside and get a few small drinks from an outdoor bar as you wait for your bus to take you back to the ship. It just didn't seem very exciting to me at all. It's not like a beer brewery tour where you actually see the guts of the factory and the process actually working. It's basically a museum to Bacardi. I didn't find it to be worth the money, but some seemed to like it. To each his/her own, I guess.

Hope that you are able to read this before you go. Let me know if I can help any more.

Thanks for your take on this tour. My group had taken the tour during the day when they DID show you through the entire plant and it was really good. I had hoped that the nighttime tour would be the same but it sound like its not. plus too much $$ for what you do get.
Guess I'll try for the Bio Bay tour instead.
Thanks for taking time to reply.
