Hi - I recently "Pricelined" the Courtyard Marriott (3 star)for 60 a night for pre cruise in September. Might want to try that.

Darlin' Susan (CarolinaBlonde) and I enjoyed the Courtyard as mentioned above. $10 in a cab from the airport plus $1 per bag. Same fare to the cruise pier. The restaurants were pretty spendy though. There was a Papa John's Pizza and a Subway within walking distance. Also a pharmacy for buying anything we forgot to pack. A can of soda at the hotel was $2. The pharmacy had it for a normal price. Much better option.
After our Cruise we stayed at the Sheraton Old San Juan Hotel and Casino. It is right across the street from the Old Town cruise pier. It is an easy walk to/from the ship, even with luggage. It is a great location for pre or post stays. Also $10 in a cab plus $1 per bag to/from the airport. On the way back to the airport we shared a cab (mini van) with some other people who were checking out so that saved a few bucks. It has a great rooftop pool. We watched the Victory sail away without us on Sunday night from there. The burger place downstairs was a little pricy but the burgers were awesome. If you try that, one order of fries is more than enough for two to split.
