San Juan -- visit the Condado area for its beautiful hotels and beaches (lots of rolling waves). Hotels offer shows and gaming as well as dinner for evening. Or explore the streets of Old San Juan for great photos of the old Spanish/Moorish influenced architecture.

St. Thomas -- take a snorkeling excursion on one of the small sailboats that offer them. Most go to Buck Island ($$$ but worth it); take a cab to Megan's Bay (a lovely beach); take the excursion to Red Hook from which you will be transported to a national park on St. John island (great beach, nice snorkeling)

St. Maarten -- A cab will take you to any number of beaches along the west coats that are all very nice. You may have to fend off a few vendors here and there (for parasailing, etc.) Or cab over to the French side (St. Martin) to visit Orient Beach (clothing optional)-- also a very nice beach.

We have the same stops next month.......

San Juan - We are going horseback riding. Not for everybody, but it's what we do.

St. Thomas - Nothing planned.........yet. We may see what is available once we set foot there.

St. Maarten - Americas Cup Regatta! Have never seen a bad review not heard anything but positive reviews on this excursion. Again, not everbodies cup of tea but we are avid boaters and enjoy all sorts of water-themed entertainment.

We're not really beach people. We like to go places and do things.

The beach would be far cheaper though.................... :)

I've been to San Juan for the same time frame as you'll be there. We just took a tour after we got of the ship, there will be tons of tour operators waiting and it's maybe $10 -15 . Our guy took us to see new San Juan, a beach for a photo stop, El Morro and then to Old San Juan. El Morro will be closed but you can see the outside and get pictures. Even if you don't shop it's neat to walk around Old San Juan and see the churches, etc.
St Thomas the first time we went to Coral World, which I wasn't impressed with but many rave reviews for it, and Magen's Bay. This time we are taking a tour with Godfrey after reading tons pf great reviews for his tour. Magen's Bay is beautiful !!
St. Maarten we took a tour over to the French side and spent a little time there and walked around Phillipsburg. It was a cruise ship excursion so we were limited. This time we are planning to arrange a tour with one of the cabbies and maybe see a little more of the island.

Michael and I just finished with those same ports of call! We sailed on the Lord Sheffield in St Martin, it was great! It is a great sail for an afternoon! Very laid back and uncrowded - different from your typical cruise ship excursion.

When we boarded - we were greeted by Rob - owner/captain of the Lord Sheffield - and Jimmy Buffett on the radio. After we set sail - Rob and the crew started the BBQ ribs and passing aroung beers/rum punch anything we wanted. We had time to anchor for a little swimming/snorkling for about an hour/ then back on board for a great sail back. It all ended too soon.

Rob and his crew are great and the ship is a wonderful wooden tall mast sailing ship. (meeting all coast guard standards!)

Check out the Lord Sheffield at WWW.Lordsheffield.com!

We had a fantastic daysail and snorkeling excursion in St Thomas last month on the Winifred. This beautiful 43' boat is based in the Red Hook marina, which is a short (and very scenic) cab ride away from the main port. The captain and 1st mate are wonderful, and because this boat takes only a maximum of 6 guests, it is a very private and personalized experience. Well worth the money! They do have a website: www.sailwinifred.com
Have a great cruise!

Coki beach in St. thomas. Just haggle a taxi, about a 10 minute ride from the port, easy taxi pick up. This is the bech to the left of coral world. excellent snorkling if that's your thing.... you really just walk into the water and the fish are there (near the reefs to the right and left of the beach) $5 per chair, washroom facilities, frozen thingys and basic food.

=yeah What Susan said about the Lord Scheffield :thumb You can not book this on the ship, though. You need to go to their site to book. (I think the deposit was $7 per person) We had a great time.

This is our itinerary, too. What ship are you all sailing on, and when?

We are on the Carnival Victory, June 29 - July 3. Anyone else????

We decided to rent a jeep on St. Maarten and head out on our own. Will probably do a catamarin/snorkel tour on St. Thomas.

San Juan.... not alot of time, probably just wander in Old San Juan, have dinner someplace and that's it.
