I don't know who you will be with but when we went we were with our two kids so doing the night club and Carlos and Charlie's was not an option. We went on a horse carriage ride thru Old San Juan on the cobblestone streets. It was great, we really enjoyed it riding thru the streets at night time. To this day, four years later, my daughter still remembers that the horses name was Max. It was only $20 so it was well worth it. We got off the boat and went towards our left where there was a fountain, that is where we found Max.

Our stop was at night also. We went to the casino they had and one gift shop then walked back to the ship. It was a wasted stop to us.

=yeah I kind of think it is pretty much a wasted stop. I live in Vegas so casinos have no attraction for me. We do late dining so that time frame would give us only a couple of hours off the ship before dinner and after dinner it would be too late to venture out. A carriage ride with Max the horse sounds fun though.

Another thing to consider is some areas in San Juan can be pretty rough after dark so be aware of your surroundings.

I never could figure out the reasoning for the night stop at San Juan =huh

We took a kayak excursion to bioluminescent bay (www.biobay.com). If I remember correctly we booked it through the ship. It was great and the kayaking was very easy. Took about a 45 minute bus ride to a beach where were loaded the kayaks and kayaked up the river into the bay. Hope this helps.

Hello CSTEEVER,

We've got one of the evening stops also [great stopover enroute to St. Thomas] and "Max" just might be the ticket. Intrigued by the Bioluminessence Tour also. Do you remember if there was a company name on Max's carriage?? Thanks

We have been to San Juan many times, and still like it. I suggest that you get off and take a taxi up to El Morro. The fort will be closed, but you can still see the outside of it, and gaze down onto the cemetary. Then you can wander your way back down to the piers. Just keep to the beaten path, as in any city, and you will be fine. You could also just take a taxi back down to the piers, but then you would miss the flavor of OSJ.

Last time, when we got off the ship, we went to our left and took an excursion on a Segway. It was really fun! This is an option of something to do, also.

There is a night tour of OSJ that is recommended over on CC.

Here is a link to Frommer's walking tour.

Here is a map of OSJ, with links to different places.

We enjoyed dinner at El Jibarito on Calle Sol.

Don't miss OSJ. It is a neat place to visit.

hi!
We will be in OSJ for the afternoon & evening, has anyone ever done the rain forest there? Is it too ambitious to attempt, since I hear it is a bit of a distance...we dock at 2pm?

thanks

Hello Sheffie,

Thanks for the reply. Been working with the grandkids a lot, sorry didn't reply sooner. Really glad you mentioned Segways! Wife and I did them in Cozumel a while back and really, really enjoyed them to the point that I'm thinking about buying a pair. We've hooked up with Segway Tours of Puerto Rico for a two hour tour covering the fort, Old San Juan etc. It should compare very well versus walking around on cobblestones and hills.

They're located on Pier-2, left side, Office-4. Contact is Jose@segwaytoursandmediapr.com Dock at 5:00pm go to the end of the pier and take off at 5:50/6:00 ain't bad.

Thanks again!!
