San Juan - The Luggage Question again

Scenario - You arrive in San Juan a day ahead of time, perhaps in the evening, stay at your hotel overnight, have breakfast the next morning and then still have ALL day pretty much til you have to get to the ship. The itinerary from RCCL says boarding is not before 2pm.

What do you do with your luggage til you take a taxi to the Pan American Pier for boarding?

a. Take a taxi from the hotel to downtown San Juan and leave the bags at Barrachina perhaps? (Looks like a nice restaurant. . .you could have lunch and leave the bags maybe)
b. Take a taxi from the hotel in the morning to the Pier and leave the bags there; and then go back into San Juan to visit the fort, or shop or possibly that Countryside Tour.
c. Go to the ship really early. A few messages here state/imply that you can actually get to the ship as early as 11AM; leave bags, and go back to San Juan for the whole day. Then return later, avoiding the lines at the ship.

This is driving me nuts! I understand that San Juan is pretty safe during the day, especially around the tourist areas. . .but not at night. We certainly don't want to be carrying luggage around during the day. We probably look like tourists enough already, but why have a sign on your back saying" Rob me! All my stuff is right here in my luggage!" Am I too paranoid? I assume that staying with a group should be better overall, if you can.

We have done a pre-sail day in San Juan a couple of times. In most cases, we check out of the hotel early in the
morning, but leave the luggage there in their luggage room. We return to the hotel in the afternoon to pick it up,
and continue on to the pier for boarding. You are right, not to even consider schlepping around town with your
luggage. And, what you have heard concerning boarding around 11:00 AM is also consistent with our experience.

Good luck.

We have left our luggage at the hotel where we spent the previous night; went sight seeing and then back to the hotel
to pick up luggage- no problems at all.

There is a luggage depot across the street at pier 4. They charge per suitcase. A great deal really. Its directly across the street on the corner.

About luggage
We will be 4 people arriving 2 days before our cruise in San Juan. Are the taxis from the airport to the hotel and from the hotel to the pier able to handle 4 passengers as well as 6 pieces of luggage plus 4 carry on bags?? or do we have to hire a car or take 2 cabs

I doubt seriously that a typical San Juan taxi could handle four passengers and a total of 10
pieces of luggage. Those we have used resemble your average US Yellow Cab. Count on
getting two cabs.

I have had an SUV taxi from the hotel to the airport in San Juan. Just ask the bellman or conceirage to call you a van or SUV. We will be in the same position for our next cruise. We have been the only 2 passengers in a Van taxi to the pier also. The PR Turistico service has set rates which are per person and per piece of luggage.

Bon Voyage
