Sapphire loses engine

The Sapphire lost the use of one engine on it's last Alaskan cruise of the season (9/12 to 9/19). As a result, it had to miss the last port of Victoria and go extremely slowly on one engine into Seattle. The prior week we heard that the Sapphire had been in extremely high seas with swells to 20 feet. Is it possible some damage could have resulted to the engine??? She also lost power prior to the engine quitting for about 1/2 hour. No compensation was offered other than a credit of port charges for Victoria which amounted to about $4 each. We were very disappointed.

Oh sorry to hear that..not being nautical at ALL..other than I love cruises...:grin..=shrug not sure about the big swells hurting it...sigh..it is in all the fine print about the ship not being responsible about missed ports etc and it has to be at the discretion of the Captain / and cruise company....lot's of time rough seas make it impossible to land in the Cayman's.. thus a sea day is posted and excursions are cancelled.. and with ports is a hit or miss happening..so I am sorry you did get a port cut..they do try but , as with anything on the occasion it does happen..hope the rest of your Alaska cruise was breathtaking..and did you like the Sapphire Princess??...she has such spectacular looks I was curious if she withstood the on board comparison??..so tell us is she just incredible to be on????...:grin...Joanne

She looked very similar to the Golden, actually. Same decor, atrium, color schemes, etc.
