Rotterdam - A campaign will be started to save the s.s. Rotterdam and to bring her back to her former home-port. As the Mayor and aldermen have turned down the possibilities for a berthing-location for the former flagship of the Holland America Line, the city-council will urge the mayor and aldermen to start new negotiations with the real estate developers who are thwarting the return of the ship.
The parties concerned are convinced that ING Vastgoed (ING Real Estate) is responsible. The bank/real estate developer will soon start the building of high-rise appartment-blocks at the south-side of the Wilhelminapier at the Rijnhaven. That is also the preferred location to berth the ship. A partner within the investor's consortium is ING's rival FORTIS-Bank.
A campaign for collecting as much signatures as possible to support the return of the s.s. Rotterdam, will be supported by the Steamship Rotterdam Foundation.
