This will be our first cruise and have been told to book the excursions through Princess early because they book up.

Anybody have any recommendations or comments? All advise will be welcome.

Thanks.

Regardless on who you book your tours with, book asap as they do book up. Keep in mind if you book with a private vendor and run into problems the ship will NOT wait for you. You will be required to get back onto the ship at your own expense.

If you want to save a few bucks, book a morning tour just in case....allowing plenty of time to get back to the ship.

Alaska is very overwhelming to plan. Look at the tours that Princess has to offer and book what you can afford and what sounds interesting to you.

whale watching in Juneau is a must for some people. The train in Skagway. ketichikan is a rain forest so expect rain. Not a wash out, but nothing a raincoat, umbrella cant handle.

Run a Google search for "tours" or "tourism" and the name of the port. You should come up with a bunch of choices. Booking "off-ship" (on your own) is usually much cheaper. Read as many reviews as possible to get a good handle on what the tour includes and what it doesn't, as well as any extra costs, etc. Also, book for early tour times, as you don't want to be late returning to the ship. If you book off-ship, the cruise line is under no obligation to wait or get you to the ship. Whereas, if you book through the ship, you have a bit more of a guarantee that the tour is reliable, of good quality and the cruise line will either hold the ship, or get you to the next port at their expense ....
