Seattle downtown to the port

Hello everyone,
I'm going on the Sapphire Princess in September. We're arriving a day early, just in case of flight delays and booked at the Westin Seattle. "An ideal urban retreat, we are just steps away from the Washington State Convention Center, Pike Place Market, and Seattle's most enticing shops." We're kinda cheap and was wondering if the ship is docked within walking distance from the hotel. :) We're two young able bodies but was wondering if it's rediculous to walk it. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

There's a map of the hotel in
http://www.starwood.com/westin/search/hotel_detail.html?propertyID=1055
I've never been to Seattle and hope someone can help me out. Thanks.

We go to Seattle every other year, its my favorite vacation spot! We leave tomorrow in fact for seattle for two days then off to Alaska on my first cruise ever!!! Anyway you would have about a mile or so walk from the Westin, and the streets tend to go up and down,so if your luggage is not on wheels you might have trouble getting to the waterfront, also the streets are usually crowded too. You can take the bus, they go right by the pier or do what we are doing if you do not want to walk. Call the shuttle express at , 206-622-1424,they will pick you up at your hotel and deliver you to pier for $21.25 for two people, which I do not think is too bad. Hope this helps. Have a great cruise!!!!!!!!! Korina the 1st time cruiser

Korina,
Thanks. I read in the Alaska post that you can call that number and for 21.25, you are driven to the pier from the airport. So I planned on calling them since the hotel is closed to the pier and maybe they'll charge that to take us to the hotel the day before. So, then from the hotel to the pier, it's another 21.25? Is that correct?

I think we'll opt for the bus (remember, we're cheap). Are you refering to the public transportation? Are the ships all lined up at the pier?

(I was in San Juan and the Norwegian Sky is docked waaaaaaay out. We had a dtwn hotel and tried walking it. Boy, what a mistake that was. hahaha. I still remember after walking for about a mile, we came to a river and unless we're going to swim across, there's no way of getting over unless we reroute.. That was funny and exhausting. So that's why I asked here)
What ship are you going on? We're on Sapphire Princess.

We are going on the Norweigan Star, my ship leaves from pier 66, yours would be that or further down, and the farther you go down the water front, the farther you have to walk,I am 47, my husband too so whereas we are not old people carting my luggage is not a favorite,if you go to www.seeseattle.org you can click on the cruise heading and they will tell you about piers, also I think the bus is the grayline but do not quote me on that and I think the bus was almost as much as the shuttle, well not that bad but if I remember right 12 dollars and I am not sure if that was each! But at that sight they also have information about transportation for you I believe, I also posted on your other post about places to go in Seattle. I love these posts I have become addicted to them.Anyway heard good and bad on NCL so hope the star will be great, but since its my first cruise I probably will not know the difference. Best wishes, I ll check back later today if you have more questions before I pack. Korina

Taxi at the front door should be less. Check with the hotel. Keep in mind there are two different piers that cruise ships leave from. One is just up the street from Pike Place and the other is a few miles away.

Thank you so much for the reply.
I'll find out where the ship is docked and decide what to do. I think our hotel is near Pike Place. I checked http://www.cruise.com/cruise_info/port_parking/seattle_30.html#images/seattle_map.jpg and it appears that terminal 30 (where princess is docked) is not that closeby. Guess we'll have to spend some money on either a cab (or a trolley) to get there.

Korina: Thanks for the tip. Haven't been on the Star, but we went on NCL Sky in April and it was great. In general the experience on the ship was excellent for us. Just a quick tip for you. Get to the dining room early if you don't want to wait long. Wait too long, I mean waiting to get a seat and getting your food. Service speed tends to slow down and one night, our icecream actually melted when it reached our table. The waitress explained that because of the # of ppl, it gets slow and therefore getting the food to you is slower. But if you don't mind that, go for it. Shows are generally good, mostly "broadway" styled production but get to the theater early to get good seats. On lobster night, go early, you get 3 tails and if you're late, you may get 2 or worse none when they run out!! :)

If you have much luggage take a cab because it will be too far to walk. Just remember that it rains a lot in Seattle and getting all wet on your first day of vacation would not be fun. Here is a web page that you can look at that has detail maps so you can decide for youself. Go about 1/2 way down the page....

Thanks so much, I looked at the map and there was no distance. So I counted it to be about 13 stadium length of walk. Think we're going to do the cab. By the way, just a separate note for anyone who's following this post. I called our hotel and was told that the GRAYLINE EXPRESS will take you from the airport to our hotel (westin seattle) for only $8.25. So call your hotels to find out if the bus stops at your hotel as well. Save a few bucks I guess.

Sapphire leaves from pier 30. I took this trip in June, a cab from your hotel to the pier is about $10, it's too far to walk, about 3 miles I guess.

Thanks, $10 sounds pretty reasonable. How did you enjoy your trip? Any last minute advice??
