Hi..........my first cruise is in December on the Diamond Princess, so I'm not sure if all onboard expenses get paid for on the last day or if Princess sends you a bill. One of my travel companions does not have a credit card, so will he receive a bill after the cruise? Also.........what is a typical amount of cash to bring along during a week's cruise? What, other than alcoholic beverages, does a passenger pay for while on a cruise? Thanks!

:wave hey Aaron.."nice to meet you..Congratulations on your Diamond Princess booking..all of your expenses have to be cleared prior to your being disembarkation on the last morning..the last night of sailing in "your Room Mailbox"or slid under your cabin door is a preliminary billing..subject to final payment..you can either go to the purser's desk on arrival..and put cash on your card account, or offer a credit card..Princess will then put a "hold" on a specific amount of $ on the card..if you go over that amount they increase the hold..as long as you have the available amount of credit..which is why you can use travelers checks, cash, debit cards on the islands to purchase things..they will NOT bill you at home..Sorry kiddo..they get their money before you get off the ship..:grin..we ..my husband and I count on about + / - $ 100.00 per day expenses for a seven day cruise..soda in cans is extra.booze and beer have an automatic 15% gratuity added as you sign for it..an automatic $10.00 / per day is assessed for tips to your room steward, head waiter and assistant waiter..so $70.00 is on right away ..any ship booked excursions are billed to your account..your travel companion best get a credit card, bring travelers checks or cash to plunk down on their account when they board..post questions often a general question will be answered fast On the "main Community forum and Princess ?'s here..have fun :daisy..Joanne

The bill will need to be settled before you leave the ship. Most settle their bill via credit card. Your friend who doesn't have a credit card will need to pay via cash or travelers check.

Drinks, tour excursions, shops, photos, bingo, internet access, and spa are examples of items people have to pay for while on the ship.

If you dare... you can hold your friend's account using your credit card but specify that it will be settled in cash so your card doesn't get charged.

How can someone not have a credit card IN 2004. They don't cost anything and when you pay them on time there is no interest.

Hi CruisingAJ! Is your friend aware that if he is not giving the cruiseline a credit card number he will have to give them a cash deposit at the beginning of the cruise??? Of course, this will not be a problem if you are such a good friend that you let him have signing priviledges on your credit card. :grin

It is NO problem to put a cash deposit for your purchases onboard. If your friend doesn't spend all the money that was put down for deposit it will be refunded in cash at the end of the cruise, or if the purchases are getting close to the amount of the deposit they will ask for more money. It is really no big deal to use cash or travelers checks instead of a credit card. I would go with travelers checks, because it is not a good idea to carry a lot of cash while traveling.Have a great cruise :thumb
