Seward to Anchorage Train

Can anyone tell me how it works going from Seward to Anchorage on the train? Do you have to pick up your own luggage or does the ship get it there for you? How do you get from the ship to the train? Is it better to take the train or the bus?

Need your advice, please.

I was on the Princess and the ship has the train waiting for you right outside dockside. You get off and your luggage is waiting for you in the dock area where you check into the train. They put the luggage on the train for you.
When you get to Anchorage.... they take your luggage and put it on a bus with you.
They take you to the Princess Center where you wait again to be taken to the airport for your flight home.
You can go shopping in a Mall nearby. You can walk to it or you can go eat at some restaurant nearby.
Then you go back to the Princess Center for your flight home. They do give you a few hours to spend in the city of Anchorage.
THE TRAIN RIDE IS WORTH THE MONEY AND FANTASTIC. It has been three years since I was on the train and I can still see a clear picture in my memory of what I saw out of the train windows. I saw glaciers, I saw quick sand, I saw lots of small waterfalls, I saw animals, I saw bulidings, beautiful views.
The train goes slow so you can enjoy the ride and it stops so you can take photos of a beautiful view.
You will also have a tour guide talk about Alaska and what you are seeing as you ride the train.
You can order food and they will bring it to your seat that has a table in front of you so you can play cards, eat or just talk with friends.
I WILL ALWAYS REMEMBER THAT TRIP. It was memorable.
When I go back to Alaska I plan to take a train ride in Skagway that is four hours and very expensive but they say it is worth the money.

Thanks so much for responding. It sounds wonderful! Did anyone take the train that was on a Royal Carib ship? I hope the procedure is the same!

I am pretty sure all the ships have the same proceedure. Some people take the train and some people take a bus. The bus is cheaper and it arrives almost at the same time as the train. They stay on the road a little bit longer because of traffic and maybe some obsticules sp on the road.
It is a very large dock and I didn't pay attention to see if there were other ships there too. I am pretty sure it is the same train because we do arrive in a real train station when we get to Anchorage.
Don't worry about it..... just book the train ride..... all ships make it easy for their clients to transfer to a bus, train, or air plane. I have cruised 20 times on different cruise lines.

Actually i took the bus and found it to be quite an enjoyable trip. You make a stop at a small zoo and get to see bears and musk oxen, it is a nice break to the long bus trip. Also you get to see waterfalls, and Earthquake park and the bus has a tour guide who was great to listen to. Im sure the train ride is just as nice but you dont get to stop at the wildlife park which was a GREAT place.

What time does the train leave Seward? How much does it cost? I'm going with the train, just want to know how much and the time.

You must have your travel agent make the arrangements for the train or the bus to Anchorage. Ask them how much it will cost you for either ride. You leave the ship and go straight to the bus or train. It depends what time the ship gets to port.
