Has anyone done this trip? Is it safe to snorkel with sharks? Celebrity offers two trips; one has shopping in san Pedro and the other is a beach party. My wife and I can't decide which one. Any info would be helpfull.

Our neighbors did this trip off the Royal Olympic Voyager in March. They loved it. You are swimming with nurse sharks. They are generally very docile and live and swim on the bottom. Biggest one I ever saw was maybe 6ft. They don't have regular shark type teeth, they have soft spikes, about 1/2inch long and they point inward. They eat by sucking their food in with such force that it breakes up the bones in the fish. If you really pissed one off (and you would have to try VERY hard, they are that docile) they might give you a real bad sucker bite. I have seen divemaster on the trips I have done, actually pick them up and hold them so people could pet them. Not a good idea for a beginner. But they are safe to swim around. Just make sure you don't step on one.

Have fun. If I ever get to Belize, this trip is on my list.

My wife and I did this just three weeks ago. It was great. The nurse sharks stay along the sand, so you will see them swim by every now and them, but to try to get up close is tough. Believe me I tried to dive down to get a good close picture and with the speed they travel I almost lost the oppurtunity to get any picture. They rays are also docile, I dove down to get some close up pictures as they came right up to me for a gentle rub. We did the lunch and sightseeing which involved heading to San Pedro and eating at a local restaurant then being turned loose to shop and see the island. I understand the beach aspect just to you to a local beach for a picnic lunch and let you go shop. I recomend doing the sightseeing trip, because after being in the sun, you will relish the time in the shade of the restaurant. Being so close to the equator, the sun can be harsh at times.

Are you going on the Galaxy? That's where we were. Fantastic cruise, very relaxing
