I am booked on a cruise onthe fascination for January 2nd. I have been monitoring the cabin availability daily to see chances of upgrade and how full the ship is. Last Friday I spoke with my carnival rep and she said the ship was only 1/3 full and upgrade looked promising about 70% good chance. I looked this morning and it was basically the same except that there was only a Guarantee left in cat 4A. I just went to look tonight and WOW!!!!!!! the ship only has cat 6A and up left (3 passengers) cabins. Everything else is booked. I called carnival and she said there is only 250 cabins left on this ship. What would make such a change from this morning until now (11 pm) did a travel agency buy a bunch? thats what I am thinking. Also the prices went up. hmmmmmm anyone have any ideas? I wonder how my chances of upgrade are now that I booked a while ago.

I wonder the same thing...do agents buy blocks of cabins sometimes, or what? I don't really know how all this works. Travelocity, which I look at all the time, always has the same rates as the cruiselines own websites. They must get a referral fee, from Carnival, right? Do other agencies make money by buying blocks of cabins at a volume discount, then selling them?

I noticed the same thing about Travelocity. It has the same exact prices as Carnival. I don't know how other people say that a few of the websites have real low fares icruise and cruise.com both are higher hmmmmmm

The same thing happened to me! I just found out on Tuesday of last week that for a 12/14 sailing there were 300 rooms open. I called this morning and there are on 7 rooms left on the whole ship!!! Talk about not getting an upgrade!

Hi Emmy,

I will be on the same cruise with you. I also am a past guest. We did the Eastern cruise over Christmas last year. For that cruise I kept watching the prices or Orbit and Expedia. They were a lot less than the price I paid carnival. I did not go through a TA. The rep at Carnival gave me an upgrade from a 4A on the Reviera deck to a 4A on the Empress deck. Both were inside cabins.

For this cruise I booked a 4A for a very cheap rate and told the rep at Carnival about the upgrade last year and again got on the Empress deck. I paid through Carnival's credit card and had a promotional enclosure for $200 off the price. I called about that and they deducted that amount from the balance due. I think that is pretty good.

By the way, If you are interested, there is a roll call on Cruise Critic website for others that will be on the cruise. They plan to meet out side the United States Bar, which is next to the casino. That is on the Atlantic Deck.

Check in and let us hear from you. There are a good mix of ages and locations represenbted. The meeting is for 3:15 to 3:30 pm. Just before the lifeboat muster.

Hope to hear from you

Marty
