Please advise what shoes are best to take on an Alaskan crusie. Is it necessary to purchase hiking boots? We have booked a fishing excursion, the white pass train and Mendelhall Glacier/Wildlife Quest. Any suggestions are helpful and most appreciated.

WE just returned and wore tennis shoes only for excursions. We did whale watching and rock climbing. They gave us special shoes after we climbed to the rock wall. Other than that...my daughter wore sandals for shopping.

Sanday, you're kidding me? I'm from Florida, I have 1 million pairs of sandals. I was under the impression that you needed waterproof hiking shoes/boots? How was your trip? What ports did you stop off at?

Just did early June. Word tennis shoes most of the time. Only time you MIGHT need boots is on glacier - but most provide boots for you. Or if you do some real hiking.

I would think a good pair of "running shoes" would do you. All I used were sandals and walking shoes. Didn't do the ice thing though.
