Shopping for Jewelry on board

We've looked at many of the beautiful gems on the ships but are still leery. They make all kinds of promises about meeting prices and quality, etc. They are always pushing the diamonds & Tanzanite. Has anyone had good or bad experiences in this regard? I wonder if anyone has actually somehow gotten them to match a lower price once they have gone home? :wave:help:help:help:help:wave

I am like you, on the leery side. I have heard horror stories about ship purchases as well as ship suggested stores purchases. But then again, who really knows for sure. I doubt they will refund any monies after your sailing if you found it cheaper at home.

JMO,but if you are looking for something particular take proof of the price with you and see if they match it. But on the other hand, if you find something that is unique and "you must have" what is a few dollars more???? You got it on vacation and the memories should be priceless.....

My dear hubby as bought me several pieces of jewelry on board. It was not necessarly cheaper, but they were nice pieces that we just simply liked. Never had any trouble with any of them.

As for the places they recommend. Some are very good reliable stores (ie: Bernard K. Passman), and some are tourist stuff (ie: Del Sol for one). You just have to take each one for what they are. And if you see something you want in a store not recommended, then get that.

My husband purchased me a tansinite and diamond ring on in Jan 08 onboard the Carnival Triumph. It was 40%off plus an additional 25%. We paid $1900 for it. We had it appraised when we got home for insurance. The jewelry store thought that I had paid. $3000. IT appraised at $2800.
I love the ring. It was not the $4000 value the ship had told us. But, I am very happy with it. It had a 30 day guarantee/ return. They gave us a paper with all the info. The jeweler verified this. If we would of paid too much, we would of returned it to Carnival for full refund.
I paid $90 for appraisal and sizing.

Thanx for that info. We've seen some nice pieces on board but it's always been difficult for me to pull the trigger. Of course I'll use almost any excuse not to buy. Cheap bastard that I am. =twocents:wave

It made me sick to spend the money on a ring. I made my husband go in and buy it for me. Of course, I had already told the staff which one I wanted.
