Hi again! Just wondering if there was any "tourist friendly" shopping in Nassau. I've heard that I should stay clear of the straw market. I'm mainly looking for t-shirts post cards and other souvinier type stuff. Does anyone know of shops where you can shop without being hassled too much.

THANKS!

There are several good stores in Nassau for your needs. We have always like the T-shirt Factory outlet (Red, White and Blue awning) on Bay St. and Old Nassau on Woods Rodgers Walk. Both reputable with good quality stuff. Of course they both have the cheapies also but you get what you pay for. For oddities we also like the Green Parrot on Bay Street right near the Coach store.

Who told you to stay away from the straw market?

We only had 45 minutes to get off the ship and do some shopping. Before our excursion. There are shops all over right off the pier we turned left then right and went to a couple of shops. Actually the people were friendly, and real nice in the 2 shops we were in. We wish we had more time to spend there. By the way there are shuttle busses that take you from ship to the end of the pier. We couldn't have done our shopping and got back to the ship for the excursion if we hadn't had used it. No charge but we tipped the driver.

You can still see where the straw market used to be. They've relocated just down the street. Tons of stuff to look at, but a lot of it is the same. I did come home with some nice baskets and placemats from there. And of course, a tee. :grin

I can think of places better to shop than Nassau, but have gotten some fair deals on T Shirts and sweat shirts. The straw market is fun: watch your purse or wallet carefully. If you are looking for big price items stick with St. Maarten, St. Thomas, Aruba, etc. Just fun things Nassau is ok. Needless to say I am not a really big Nassua fan.

The straw market is located in a huge white framed tent buliding between the waterfront and the main street, easy walking distance from the pier. Haven't heard if they are going to rebuild the original building yet.
