Shore Excursion - Wait List

I have prebooked a shore excursion and have been put on the wait list. Does this typically mean space will not free up before the cruise? Should we book something else instead?

Depends how far away your cruise is and how popular the excursion with number of people limited or not but my guess is someone will back out and you will have a chance as you are allowed to get a full refund if you turn in your tickets 24 hours before the excursion or more. Don't panic yet but a back up plan would be good just in case.

That would also depend on which shore excursion you are talking about. The dolphin swim excursions are extreamly popular in Coz, so I'd recommend a plan B. There are only 20 slots on each trip and they sell way before the cruise date.

Sometimes, they only allow a certain number of the slots to be filled up online and leave the rest open to be filled once people are on the ship. Hopefully, being waitlisted, you will get preference.

We were wait listed for an excursion on our last cruise but when we arrived on board we had gotten the excursion.

We went to Hawaii on the Sun Princess a year ago in March and we pre -booked our excursions thru their website and was put on a wait list for one tour. When we got on the ship we checked on it and they said we were way down on the list, so we probably wouldn't get it, and we didn't. We were told you could only pre book 60 days out and that turned out to be not true. They told me on board that this excursion was sold out 6 months prior and we were told you couldn't book that far out; so I'm not sure how everyone else got it booked thru the ships tour desk.
Happy cruising.....Anita

You can't book shore excursions 6 months out. 120 days is as early as possible.

I've been on over 30 cruises and about six with Princess; and that's what I thought too.....but the tour desk operator last year on the Sun Princess told me that they were contacted directly and that's why the tour was sold out six months ahead of time; so no one had a chance 120 days out. Doesn't sound right to me.
Happy Cruising....Anita

We have been waitlisted 3 times before, and the only one we did not get when we got onboard was the Dolphin Encounter. As I recall, though, we did something else and had a great time, and our friends that went on the Dolphin Encounter thought it was disappointing because there was so little time with the Dolphins. Another thing to consider: Princess may also add another group, depending on the excursion, and depending on demand, so it is worth hanging in there!

Good luck!
