We are on the Grand Dec7 CW , my fiance and I are wondering if shorts are acceptable during the day... i tend to get very cranky when im hot and uncomfortable, and do not plan on packing a rediculous amount of office wear , i work in nice clothes all week long, and though i am not planning on hanging out in flip flops and halter tops, i do plan on wearing shorts nice v-neck shirts and my sneakers... my fiance wants to wear jean shorts and t shirts, evening i plan on wearing like khaki pants or something but, i really dont feel like getting all dolled up on vaca. Any thoughts.... not planning on looking like a slob, but not planning on dressing to the nines either

Ml,
I am like you.. I hate to be hot!! I wear shorts all day long on the cruise, in fact, I bought a nice pair of khaki colored swim trunks that i wear on sea days I am pool/ hot tub kinda guy! {there are 6 pools on the Grand) They have zip pockets and put my cruise card in a zipped pocket and off I go! I also wear tee shirts during the day (pool side) with colared polo or hawaiian shirts if i go to and event .. like wine tasting!!! I have seen nice casual clothes as you mentioned. I also bought a nice pair of open rubber sandles to hang out in during the day(tevas).

Shorts are acceptable during breakfast and lunch with a colared shirt --in the dining room-- Horizion Court buffet, simply suggests "no swimwear" in the dining room. This is a bit odd since there are 2 pools next to the Horizion Court area.. I've seen some people in there eating, dressed in swimwear!!
Dinner is more formal, I wear khaki pants, dress shirt- hawaiian shirt etc. Formal nights are the nights to get all dolled up!

Shorts and comfortable daywear are recommended by the cruiselines. The only restrictions implemented are evening wear in the dining rooms, otherwise wear what you like.

I have traveled on several Princess cruises and smaller informal but upperclass Windstar cruises. Passengers on Princess cruises tend to be more traditionalist in thinking they need to comply with dress codes on formal nights. However, since I am cranky when I'm hot, I usually take an older darker jacket on trips, often one that has reached the end of its lifetime, and will wear a button shirt underneath, blue or some darker color. Almost immediately after seating, I remove my jacket and put in on the back of my chair. Never had a probleme, in fact, I doubt anyone will be challenged on formal night for dress provided they are not in swim wear.

The world has become much less formal. I respect those who enjoy dressing up - I did take a tuxedo and accoutrements to my first cruise, which was a Princess cruise. But I have come to learn one can be respectful of others preferences and still maintain one's own comfort level. the majority of people wont take notice, those who do are generally overreacting.

On the Island last week, people wore whatever made them comfortable. I didn't see too many sport coats in the dinning room except on formal night. I also saw many people in shorts in the Horizon Court in the evenings. It really depends on what I was doing during the day. If I was on a long day shore excursion and was tired, I would not feel like getting dressed for dinner so I would go to the horizon court in whatever I had on during the day. On formal nights you had a wide variety of clothes from ball gowns and tuxes to nice pants and sport coats. No one cared that I know of.

That's one thing I've noticed about Princess cruises. No one seems to care what anyone else is wearing. It's not like that on other cruise lines. For daytime, shorts are perfect. Even at night time in the Horizon Court, you might be able to get away with shorts. It's your vacation - wear what you're comfortable in!
