My concern is not so much seasick worry as much as the virus that has affected a few cruise ships in the past. I have heard that princess does a good job with making people wash their hands prior to meal service but what about the staff. I am going on the golden princess on 5/2 and am really worried that this will ruin my long awaited vacation.

Don't worry. My husband is what I would call a borderline, let's say, "obsessive compulsive germaphobe". Being he doesn't fly, I was able to talk him into a cruise. So, he went on his first cruise two years ago and loved it. He loved it so much we planned a second cruise last year. However, when he heard of the virus last year he insisted on cancelling. The good news is we will be sailing once again in a couple of weeks and, from what we have read, the trick is to keep washing your hands often and hope everyone else does, too. So, if my husband can get over the virus issue, you can, too. Go for it!

Just so you know..the amount of Viral infections with the actual numbers such as Norwalk Virus are very small. They just make huge press.and then the media has a field day reporting it ..I'm a nurse and EXTREMLY germ concious.and read all kinds of my nursing journals .There are many more outbreaks in Convention centers, hotels, restaurants etc,.they just do not get as much press coverage so the knowledge is less so.....Because the CDC is so stringent with the numbers: the Cruise Ship Industry is a leading force in Controlling infections and required by law to come forth with accurate numbers.so there is a constant surveilance to maintain the highest standards ..Food servers wear gloves. There is constant cleaning of railings, signs all over the bathrooms about stringent handwashing techniques,etc..It's more often I'm sure a careless Cruise ship passenger than staff..Bring some antibacterial instant hand wash, some towelettes and use common sense..It's supposed to be the trip of a life time while being carefull helps.Try not to dwell in an unhealthy way about the germs/ and just know that the cruise ships work very hard at maintaining immaculate standards for their thousands of cruise passengers..It is in their very best interests to maintain staff and passengers wellbeing..Have fun. Relax and have a little faith they will take care of you.....:daisy..Joanne

I too was worried about the dreaded virus and was reassured from a friend who went on the Dawn and Grand Princess that they keep everything very clean. He is an early riser and he would get up to walk every morning way before real people get up, and he said they were busily scrubbing down everything. Gave me a lot of comfort. Hope it helps you too.
