Single Supplement

Hi, I'm looking for any ideas/suggestions you may have re cruise lines with reduced single supplement charges. I took my first cruise this summer and want to cruise again but would like to pay less than 200% of the going rate. I am aware there are services that hook people up to share cabins but I'm not interested in them.

Thanks for any input you may provide.

Talk to your travel agent, many offer 150% and even sometimes less. As agents, we get this information from time to time. She/he should be able to help you.

Some ships have rooms for singles. Cruise Travel did an article on this and listed several ships. I believe the QE2 has some single cabins and I know the NCL Wind has one. Otherwise, usually the inside rooms are "only" 150% and the more expensive lines charge 110% to 125%

NMNita and Cruizer,

I'm looking at Panama cruises for next Fall, so I'll follow up on your suggestions.

Thanks for the info!

In July I had the only single cabin on the Wind. Was a great room! Bottom floor of cabins but right in the middle and elevator was right around the corner. It is located right where you get on the ship. I liked it and no single supp at all!

Re: Single Supplement/Panama Canal (Partial)

Hey Cruizer, Thanks for the article, it is great! I'm going to check the lines with the lowest single supplement for my cruise to the Panama Canal.

Hi rburns44, what was your cabin number on the Wind and where did you go?

In checking cruises to Panama I found an odd listing for a couple of cruises. It says, "Panama Canal (Partial)" What the heck does that mean? They can't start through the canal and u-turn back and backing out seems . . . well an even stranger idea. Anyone know what that means?

If I remember the number correctly, the single cabin on the Wind is 4146. The Wind only sails out of Hawaii.

A partial canal means only part of the ship goes into the canal. :lol

Okay, what it really means is the ship goes to the lake, and yes, makes a U turn and comes back out the way it came in. This is always done from the Caribbean side and allows the ship to return to the port from which it sailed (which makes airfare less expensive). Usually the ship spends some time in the lake before coming back out.

LOL!! I have to tell you, there were many suggestions as to what "Panama Canal (Partial)" meant but I liked yours the best!

Again, thanks for the information and links. I'm almost decided on a HAL cruise in late September. Although I really loved my NCL cruise to Alaska, I can't find an NCL cruise for the dates/length I want-bummer! However, I understand that HAL is very nice, both passenger and crew-wise. I will miss the Free Style dining, though.
