We are heading to Alaska September 22nd and are planning on doing on one the train excursions offered. I have read it is better to do one that includes the train and motor coach because you see more. Has anyone done the ride that goes to carcross? It is an 8 hour trip that included lunch. My husband is an acid photographer. We are wondering what other opionions are on this trip or other train trips. Thanks in advance for your help!

Well for sure do not miss the train.

We did the up and back train. Going up you side one side and then turn the seats over and change with the folks across the aisle. You can get outside between cars and I believe they run open cars at times also. We were first of the season sort of thing and there was lots of snow at the top. Great Pics and a great ride.

I've been to Carcross by road so I'm a wee bit jaded as far as the north goes. But the scenery all along the way is just great. You can't go wrong unless you "Miss the train"

Due to severe flooding south of and in Carcross, the train is no longer going to Carcross this year. You can, though, take a train to Fraser and the bus from there to Carcross and back to Skagway. It's a wonderful trip, with a variety of scenery that you really have to see to believe, from coastal rainforest to a desert complete with huge sand dunes.
