Smoking ~~~~NEW YORK CITY

I'm sorry, to have to ask this question, but my DH smokes. I know that I've read on these boards or heard on the news that there is NO SMOKING in NEW YORK.

He thinks I've lost it for sure now. "you've got to be kidding" says, DH.
Does this mean just certain places or all of the city, inside buildings and outside.

My question for DH is:

1. Can you smoke in your hotel room

2. Can you smoke once your outside the airport terminal and before you enter the ship terminal?

Don't mean to offend any non smokers, but do know there are bound to be some other smokers out there and was just wondering . I'm trying to get him to quite before our cruise out of New York.

Thanks for your info and help

Hi Scotts, I feel your pain! :lol Here is the visitor's guide website:

<http://www.nyc.com/visitor_guide/>

Here is what it says:

Smoking

New York City has become decidedly anti-smoker in the past decade. Aside from a steep tax on all Cigarette purchases in the city, new smoking laws have steadily pushed smokers out onto the streets. Smoking is prohibited on all public transportation, in taxis, in most public spaces in hotels and office buildings, and in most stores. Smoking is also severely restricted in most restaurants, and not permitted in many more. New laws ban smoking altogether in restaurants and even in bars!

Hope this helps! Have fun anyway!

But you can smoke on the street! Hotel rooms have the right to make all rooms nonsmoking, and if you smoke they can add a charge. But you may smoke outside anywhere.

I'm not sure about hotel rooms, but I think you can still get smoking rooms.... No smoking is allowed in restaurants, clubs, and bars or any other public indoor place. Your DH will not, however, be alone outside - there will be plenty of smokers around... Also, make sure that you buy cigs before coming to NYC, because with the tax they are VERY expensive.
