smoking on cruises

Hi everyone,

My wife and I are planning out first cruise for April. I have read a lot on these boards about smoke filled ships and lots of smoke smells in rooms etc. We are both reformed smokers and would rather not breath a lot of second hand smoke or smell it for the price of a cruise. We are wondering if that is true...how bad is it? and is the only option to cruise on the smoke free paradise if we cruise with Carnival? Any info would be helpful as well about booking our first crusie.

Thanks

Adam and Janine

Cruise the Paradise.........it can get pretty bad on other ships.....especially at the
bars or in the casino....

I'm leaving Sunday for my 3rd time on the Paradise. I LOVE that ship for the non smoking
atmosphere. This will be my 17 Carnival cruise....... while I like the layout of the Pride or even the destiny class ships, I like the nonsmoking of the Paradise

I have never had a lot of problems with smoke on any ship but than I do not frequent the bars and casino. I spend more time in areas where people are generally not smoking. I do know my wife has complained at times about smoke in the casino.

The Paradise is great for the not smoking but the Paradise always rotates the same to destinations so after a few trips may get a little old.

I'm with PEB. I am an asthmatic and as you can see by my cruise history below, I have sailed on Carnival more than once and have never had a problem with smoke. I also never go into the smoking designated areas. I might briefly go into the casino but then I am outta there quick and up out on deck for fresh air. I have found that most people smoking out on deck are careful to smoke in a direction that carries their smoke away from other people. I have never had any problems with smoke wafting into my cabin or onto my balcony -- maybe I have just been lucky? I am in the habit though of leaving areas where people are smoking if I need to. It may not be fair -- those individuals have no right to smoke in NONSMOKING areas but what can I do? I'm not going to ask a crowd of people to stop. Maybe I should and see what happens? I am pretty used to having to protect my own respiratory status and am not really bothered by having to move to avoid smoke. I'd rather breathe easier than be "right".

I do not smoke, On the Conquest I was in every bar and Casino and did not notice an abundance of smoke. Maybe because the ship is new and has better ventilation it' wasn't a problem.

I am a smoker and I never mind if someone ask me not to smoke if its bothering them because I am not that crazy about second hand smoke unless I am in Jamaica. lol seriously, just ask it doesn't hurt and if they have any caring bones in their body they will either move or put it out.
