Smoking on Princess? (Golden)

Hi all. We are still looking to book our Southern Carribbean cruise this July. We have it narrowed down between the Golden Princess and RCCL's Adventure of the Seas.
I'm reading alot of reviews & getting great advice from everyone on this board. The only thing that I read that bothered me was several Golden Princess Reviews that said that this is a "smoker's ship", that there are not designated smoking spots on this ship like other ships (ex; on Celebrity you could only smoke in the casino, bar, or outside)
What I read was that the dining room is non-smoking, but people can smoke anywhere else and many pople do. Has anyone found this to be true?
We are non smokers, and being from NY we have gotten so spoiled with the smoking ban in pretty much all public places (bars, restaurants, anywhere indoors) we would not want to be around a lot of smoke, it aggravates my husband's asthma. So if there is a lot of smoking on this ship, I don't think it's ythe one for us.
Thanks for any/all advice,
Marina

Not sure who told you that, but the Golden has the same non-smoking areas as rest of the Princess fleet.

I've read the review your speaking of, and while I haven't been on the Golden myself, I've been on the Grand and there is never a problem with people smoking outside the designated areas. There are not designated non-smoking areas, but designated smoking areas. There are few inside smoking areas, the casino being the major one. Otherwise, major smoking areas are outside, starboard side of the ship and individual balconies.

The review you read said there was smoking everywhere. I have never encountered that, nor has anybody I know who has been on the Golden. I've never seen smokey hallways. I've never seen smoking outside the showrooms...as people who want to smoke go outside on the starboard side of the ship. I've never seen smoking in the inside lounges...apparently at one lounge there is smoking allowed at the bar...not in the lounge itself....and I never knew that after being on three cruises on the same ship! That being said, I never saw anyone sitting at that bar, so there couldn't have been too much smoke. Most people step outside as the Promenade deck is steps away.

Most people on any cruiseship will tell you that when they enter their cabin, there is nary a smell of smoke. I've never had a problem. Cruiseships do much better than hotel rooms at eliminating smoke odor. People are amazed that cabins are not designated "smoking or non-smoking" and that you can't tell the difference.

People will smoke on their balcony. If you have a problem with a neighbor regarding that, you might try to work something out.

That is just not true. I am a smoker and had to look hard to find places to smoke :lol Princess ships in general are not so called "smokers ships".One side of the ship is totally non-smoking and the other has a select few places to smoke non of them are in the atrium area either as it is totally non-smoking. I don't know why someone would say it is a smokers ship =confuse

Agree totally with Ljean and SS on this one. Just coming off the Coral I think it was VERY evident that most smokers were VERY curteous of Non-smokers and tried to adhere to their side of the ship. Obviously there are exceptions with any cruise but for the MOST part I seriously doubt U will have ANY problems whatsoever. :thumb
