Snacks for Trip

I always like to put some durable snacks in my bag in case we get hungry while waiting at the Port of Miami and also when we venture to shore and are stuck somewhere with no food nearby.

On our last cruise I packed the huge Tootsie Rolls and some oatmeal cream-filled cookies. The cookies got crushed pretty quickly. I'm feeling less than creative - what can you suggest?

I always bring M & Ms for the airport/airplane. We've only had one cruise with a long embarkation and we like to spend that time talking to fellow passengers.

I forgot all about slim jims. yum. Will have to get those.

Hey, lizarstew,

do they do special things on the ship for Halloween, like trick or treating?

You might consider an M&M-spiked trail mix, which combines more slowly digested proteins like nuts and sunflower seeds (they help you stay full longer) with energy-boosting sugars like raisins, dried pineapple chunks, and M&Ms.

Man, I could go for some of that right now....

I usually carry some of those Slim-Fast meal bars - they have enough vitamins & minerals to be considered nutritious, are dense enough to not crumble easily (so they travel well in my bag) & are pretty filling when eaten with a bottle of water or a cup of tea or coffee. I put several in my carry-on last year & didn't need them until the return from the cruise - it was February, there was a major snowstorm causing all kinds of airport delays & I was so happy to have them with me. They survived the trip en route to the cruise & the cruise week & were in great condition when I finally needed them. They also come in a variety of flavors - Deep Chocolate Brownie, Chocolate Peanut, Apple Cobbler, Chocolate Cookie Dough, several flavors of granola. Hope this helps!

I took some cheese sandwich crackers. They packed pretty well. I also took some chex mix in small bags. On a couple of shore excursions I was glad I had packed some snacks.

Pringles in the can.....the don't get crushed and everybody loves them. The only time I evre buy them is on vacation, so it's kinda like a real junk food treat. Janet

I favor snack mix -- either make-your-own (easy with the Chex cereal recipe, and customizeable) or buy a big bag and parcel into zip-lock plastic bags.

Melissa,

This will be my first Halloween cruise so I don't know if they plan any special festivities. I'd imagine they do, though...at least for the kids!

I never take any extra snacks with me so that I can really appreciate the food on the ship that much better! : )

I"m already stocking up too! I've got Pringles, cashews, bite-sized crackers, mini-Mint Pepperidge Farms Milano cookies. Didn't think of Slim-Jims or Trailmix, but I'll get that too!

Last time I packed all these goodies, my boyfriend was like "why are bringing all that?" Guess who was the first one digging for a treat at the airport? B)

:) That's funny.

We both were really happy to have some snacks at the Port while waiting because we were so excited to get to the ships, we didn't have any breakfast.

Are there any good snacks that you can take off the ship such as fruits or cookies?

I've heard of people taking room service or buffet goodies in baggies onshore. I wouldn't advise fruit, just because of how different countries are with foreign produce being introduced to their environment.

i keep a glad/ziplock/tupperware sandwich size container in my carryon--on

disembarking morning, i make a few croissant sandwiches....i always end up waiting a loong time at the airport and these help keep me from passing out....just add a cup of decaf and i am good to go (or rather, to wait)...

i use the same containers when going on long shore excursions, filling them with gummies and nuts...

i usually have pringles or torengos...the torengos seem to have less salt

a few pieces of swiss cheese and a couple of triscuits help keep severe hunger at bay until you are back on the ship

Has anyone ever gotten a "sack lunch" from the ship for the times when you won't be there for lunch?
Just wondered if they provided such...:)

We took several cookies with us on our snorkeling/stingray city excursion (boosted them from Windjammer). After a couple hours out in the sun, those things are worth their weight in gold!
