This is what it was on the Millennium in April 2002 (Right from our Cruise Daily):
Guests on the Millennium can now have unlimited soft drinks each day with the purchase of the Guest's Soda Drinks Package. The cost is $4.50 per day plus 15% gratuity. Purchase must be made for the entire length of the cruise. A special stick is placed on your signature card which will allow for unlimited soft drinks at all bars throughout the ship, except Michael's Club, Martini Bar, Champagne Bar, Cosmos Nightclub (after 11PM), Casino or via room service. Replacement stickers will not be given if your signature card is lost. The guest must be present to receive the soft drink.

Is it worth it? I drink soda, no coffee or tea, seldom a mixed drink,. Are the soda prices that much? I'm going on the Summit.

that a can of soda can cost you up to $2.01 per can...I know the soda card is for
fountion soda. So the card can be worth it....

Well, guess I'd better get my dollars and pennies in the safe and use the soda card. My first cruise , don't have a clue yet of all the little things I need to get. I know you don't use money on board. Where does one purchase the soda card?

The location of the purchase on each ship is listed in your daily cruise paper. I think it's the Cafe Cova on the Millennium class ships. You charge the purchase to your signature card like anything else you buy. The big surprise comes the last night of your cruise when they slip your bill under your cabin door and you see all that you spent!

I don't know about Celebrity but on Princess the soda card was limited to coke and diet coke only. My wife is diabetic and has to drink diet sodas. She would have liked to have had diet sprite but one could only get that in the can - not a soda card item. In addition, the fountain sodas were more diluted and sometimes flat. Service may be better on Celebrity since there is a gratuity included in their card. It wasn't on Princess and you'd often not see your server return with your soda during a show. On our upcoming Celebrity cruise, we will purchase the cans as we desire them.
