Some more questions for 1st Cruise

Hi we are taking our first princess cruise in two months and I have a few more questions....

1. Do walkie talkies work well on the ship? Is there a proper ettique one uses?

2. Does anybody know what type of menu Princess serves while on an Alaskan Cruise?

1) Radio ettique - About the same as with cell phones.

On the ship - Please don't use them in the dining room or the showrooms. Use some descretion. Remember that what you are saying can usually be heard be anyone standing nearby. Likewise, if you're not using an ear bud, what the other party is saying is being heard by everyone else also. Even if you are trying to keep your conversatin private, it probably isn't. Anyone else with a family radio can listen in on the same channel.

Off the ship - Depending on where you are, they may actually be illegal! The laws on telecommunications vary widely from country to country. So, to be safe, if you're not sure, leave them on the ship during portcalls.

2) Princess's Alaskan Menu - Basically the same as their fleet menu, but they do have an emphasis on "Northwest Cuisine". You should have at least one regional item offered each night. Look for hallibut, salmon, reindeer, king crab, etc.

In most circumstances YES but the more U get to the interior of the ship the MORE the metal interferes with their transmissions. Buy a set with a 10 mile range and MULTIPLE Channels is also a wise decision. Following CValgon1's Etiquette rules is also encouraged. :doubleup:

Their menus are pretty consistent as Calgon states and U might find a few MORE fish entrees on some sailings. :scratch:

yeah.. calgon and einstien pretty much nailed it...


the only thing i might add would be that some of the newer two way radios sold in pairs work on identical RF and usually keep conversations private to a degree(unless someone is using a scanner). They are correct in that the closer to the interior of the ship the less signal you recieve and transmit. The bulkheads are hell on RF.. so you are definitely going to want powerful radios.

although, isn't it possible for the RF feed and bleed possibly going to interfere with ship's communications with the higher powered radios???

if it were me, and i had children and wanted to let them explore on their own i would buy a couple of cheap prepaid, phones with the mobile to mobile feature(these do not cost any minutes to use in this fashion, boost mobile comes to mind). you simply program each others mobile or push to talk numbers into the phones and voila! you now have modern walkies talkies for about 20 bucks each and are disposable after the cruise if you choose .
