Some New Royal Caribbean Itineraries for 2009

Royal Caribbean is coming up with some interesting itineraries for 2009. Enchantment of the Seas is going to be home ported in Colon, Panama with port calls at Cartagena, Semarang, Aruba, Curacao and Bonaire. That starts in December 2008. In January 2009, Vision of the Seas is moving to Santo Domingo, Domican Republic to do round trips to St Maarten, Roseau, Porlamar and Aruba. Both are seven night itineraries.

As I mentioned in another thread, Carnival Pride is moving back to Florida to make way for the 113,000 ton Carnival Splendor which will take over the seven night Mexican Riviera cruises from Long Beach beginning on March 29, 2009.

I am guessing this move is designed to compete with Royal Caribbean's move of the 138,000 ton Mariner of the Seas to Los Angeles. Mariner of the Seas will begin the seven night Mexican Riviera sailings on February 22, 2009. Both of those ships will call at Puerto Vallarta, Cabo San Lucas and Mazatlan. Nice to get some big ships out west.

It will be interesting to see what RCCL replaces the Mariner with at Port Canaveral.
This is about my favorite port to sail from due to the ease of getting in, out and back on the interstate.

If you are looking for a quick three or four night cruise to Baja California after October 2008, your only choice is Carnival.

It will be interesting to see what the future brings. While Royal Caribbean is building three more ships (Independence of the Seas will start taking passengers in 2008 and the two Genesis ships are scheduled to start sailing in 2009 and 2010) Royal Caribbean has also announced that the entire Sovereign class (Sovereign, Majesty and Monarch) will soon leave the fleet (I think over the next two or three years). The Empress is older than the Monarch or the Majesty, so its days at RC are likely limited. That just leaves the six Vision class ships to do the short cruises. Will one of the Vision class ships come to Los Angeles to do the short three and four night Baja California cruises? Time will tell. However, I would not count on it happening before 2010.
