Souveneir Christmas ornaments

We like to bring home Christmas ornaments when we are on vacation - I love the fun each year of unwrapping the 'travel' ornaments and being reminded of the fun times we've had on vacation.

Sometimes they are hard to find, depending on where you are - when we were in St Thomas last we saw lots of booze, jewelry, and T-shirts, but Christmas ornaments were harder to find. So my question is, do you know of any specific shops where I should look for these? We'll be on the Destiny this October, so we'll be in San Juan, St Thomas(& hopefully a quick trip to St John), Dominica, Aruba, & Barbados. I want something fun and not too expensive(less than $10, probably). Also, does anyone remember if Carnival sells 'Carnival' ornaments in the gift shop? I don't remember them, but it's been ages since our last cruise, unfortunately.

Yep, we bought a Carnival ornament on the ship last fall.

I've learned to get a little creative when a "real" ornament isn't available. Our tree proudly features items that were "meant" to be key chains, those view things you hold up to the light and see a photo transparency inside, and one of those little monkey pirate heads carved out of a coconut.

In San Juan the best place to shop for Christmas ornaments or any real artisan work is at the Artisan Gallery [can't remember the full name] on the left side of calle Fortaleza about half way up the hill from the taxi queue. You can buy all size nativity scene characters and also real hand carved 'santos' if you want to spend that kind of money. The rest of the street is lined with the usual tourist shoppes and some real jewelry stores. This street runs parallel with the street along the docks. It goes up the hill to the street [calle Cristo?] where the discount outlets, cathedral and El Convento hotel are located. We always eat at Siglo XX ['twentieth century'] on the right side of the street going up the hill, it is near the bottom.

Yes, Carnival does sell Christmas ornaments in the gift shop. I bought a cruise ship ornament of the Legend on my recent cruise. I didn't find any ornaments in St John since there was only a very small gift shop at Trunk Bay. A new thing I noticed this year, the gift shop sold ornaments from each port that we stopped at right in the store. They were the basic ornaments sold everywhere but I was suprised to see them.

I have a small St. Thomas ornament. Ask at the stores because they can be hard to find if they are small.

A lot of the stores in Aruba have them..very nicely priced hand painted ceramic made..I pick up a couple each trip to our land cruise time share every other year..they also have the nicest yarn Christmas trees..hard to explain..the trees sell right at the pier shopping area..across from the casino area and the jewelry strip area..Pearlgems,Tanzanite Int..The ornaments might be a little harder to find but I'd try the souveneir shops on both sides of thr tatoo parlor next to Subway and Dunkin Donuts right next to the pier..Good Luck..if you ask they may tell you where they are..ornaments were $2.00 and the trees were $4.00 and $6.00 for larger ones..Joanne

My mother and grandmother collected small dolls for our Christmas tree. They're from all over the world and they look great. Great too for households with kids and pets as they don't break!
