Sovereign of the Seas

I just cruised with my family for the first time ever last August on the Sovereign of the Seas. I was obviously impressed because it was my first cruise, but after returning and looking at other cruise lines I am somewhat disappointed in what we saw on SOTS. The rooms were REALLY small, our lead dinner server had a chip on his shoulder, a great deal of the ship was closed for renovations, and the only things to do were basically eat and gamble (from what I could see.) Does this seem to be the norm with RCCL, or did we just have a less than perfect experience on a less amenity ship? I know another RCCL ship pulled up next to us in Nassau and it was massive next to our ship, so maybe other ships have a lot more to offer.

The SOS is the oldest, but certainly not the smallest of the RCCI fleet. Having said that ; however, she has some of the smallest standard cabins in the fleet. All of the newer ships have larger cabins. My philosophy is to try all of the ships on all of the cruise lines and then I will be able to compare them all objectively.

Cruzman's right. Another point to consider is length of the cruise your on. I have seen differences in the crew, food, etc. I've always been fortunate on the Sovereign (5 times)but sometimes it's just hit and miss with the crew and food on any ship. RCI's newer ships are wonderful, but I still prefer the smaller ships.

We have been on 18 cruises on all types of ships, the Sovereign being one of them and we have sailed on it twice. We always had a wonderful time and the service was great, to the point of being above and beyond on our most recent cruise. We always found a lot to besides eat and gamble. We have also sailed on the Navigator of the Seas and and while it offers a lot to do we still prefer the smaller ships of RCI. As for the cabins, yes they are very small and because we know they are small we have booked the Cat. C which is now being called the junior suite so that we had more room. All cruise ships regular cabins are smaller than hotel rooms , but many cruise lines and ships offer cabins that are much roomier than on the Sovereign. The part I don't understand is it seems that you had a good cruise and enjoyed yourself , but now you are second guessing yourself? If you had a good time while you were on the ship you had a good cruise. Now that you are home and reading about other cruises you are finding some that would appeal to you even more. So now you can do all the research and find which cruise you would like to do next.
