Yes, the tips are included. You can leave a little extra if you want.
Or you could bargain with the waitstaff for no tip:D

So tips are included.. I always consider the level of service received. And most of the time I fold a bill of the appropriate denomination and palm it so when I shake hand with my server it passes unseen to him or her. In this day of some ships pooling tip money, I want to recognize exceptional service without having it shared with anyone else.

I've seen people do this. It is not as "unseen" as you might think. Besides, tipping before the service is rendered has another name - it's called a bribe.

I always tip them , they earn it..

I thought the fee for the Specialty restaurants "was" the servers tip, is this not correct?

Some of it is. However, some of it goes to pay for the "upgrade" quality of food.

Gee I guess I offer bribes. As soon as I meet my cabin attendant. I always give them a generous tip in advance and in addition to what I will leave upon leaving. I am in total agreement that they are underpaid and overworked. From then on I don't bug them with minor requests. I don't have to.

Thanks Cruizer - we've never dined at any of the Specialty restaurants, glad to know what is what. :)

If the speciality restaurants are anything like the one on Holland America. Corky will love it.

My two experiences dining in Portafino were both delightful. My first on the Mariner was made most pleasant with a trio of musicians playing appropriate music. They even stopped by the table and took requests. Although there was no live music when dining in Portafino on the Explorer, the quality of the meal was comparable, and the service was just as great. Try the taramisu for dessert.
