Spring Cruise

Hello all, my husband and I are thinking about taking our 3 yr old and 1 yr old on a cruise in April, around Easter time. Does anyone know if this is a popular time for college age spring breakers?

Thank you

Cruising for college age people is not nearly as popular as invading the beaches of Cancun. There are two major reasons for this.

First of all the drinking age is in Mexico is only 18 so more college age people can drink on a land vacation than on a cruise. The drinking age on cruise ships is 21 and strictly enforced.

Secondly, the age restrictions. On most cruise lines if there is someone under 21, they have to be traveling with someone who is 21 or over. On Carnival if someone is under 21 they have to be traveling with someone who is 25 or older.

Most spring break business on cruises are families so you'll be just fine.

Almost all colleges have spring break in March so you will not have to be concerned about the wild partying, but there will be lots of families cruising the week before and after Easter.

When we encounter students on spring break, they were responsible young adults having a good time

We took a cruise this April the week before Easter and there were quite a few children, if there were many Spring Breakers they were not evident. The children that were on the cruise were very well behaved too.

If you're concerned about "college age spring breakers", I would suggest that you select a cruise line which they would normally avoid. Go with Celebrity. They put out a great product and cater more to higher end families and not (so much) to the college kids ...

sorry, I totally disagree; the most kids we have ever encountered on a cruise was on Celebrity over Thanksgiving about 6 years ago and they were marginally well behaved at best. Many were spoiled brats. As for college kids, no one can even book a cabin unless there is someone over 25 in the cabin or everyone is 21 or over, so most lines do control the riff raff. There is no way though, regardless of the line as long as it is a mass marketed one to be clear of the college crowd from about the 10th of March to the 25th. April is not a month college kids normally cruise.

Actually, Carnival is the only cruise line that requires someone over 25 be in the cabin if there is someone under 21. The rest of the lines just require one person be over 21. All except for Disney which you can book at 18 & over.

having put 5 kids through college over a total of 9 years and having FOUR daughters in at the same time...we heavily disagree with the statement of kids *NOT* on break in April on vacation..for the life of us it was not even a CHANCE to happen any one of the 4 girls had the same time off in April.. a *ROYAL* Pita ..no matter HOW hard we tried it ended up they all cycled through at different weeks..so from February President's week TILL the first of May "someone" was on a DIFFERENT break..:duh:
Colleges on the East Coast have it all spread out...hence unable to get "our family" in one spot for vacations!!..Good luck with the less kids on Break finding less deal!!.. Joanne

ok, I am generalizing, almost all colleges are out prior to Easter, most in mid March, of course there are exceptions. I was thinking of the true influx of college age kids, not the handful that do get out the last week or so of April..There is a website that actually lists the college breaks but I can't remember what it is..I do know that about 50% of college students are out mid March. Some will be out early March, some the last week and yes, a few the week after Easter.

Thank you to everyone for all your replies!!! I enjoyed reading all of them. We are leaning towards the Sun but the new Epic looks amazing.

I am dieing to try the Epic just to say, I did it, but I don't think it is my cup of tea. On the other hand, even though the Sun is getting along in years (really not that old, only 8) she is an awesome ship..She is probably my favorite, or certainly second to the JEwel.
