SS United States tipping question.

Our first time going on a cruise. Off to Alaska in Septemer.

I know about the tipping on the ship in general, but what no one is talking about is how do you tip after a meal in the specialty restaurant?

Do you tip on 15% of the $25 per person and who do you tip since there are a number of different servers in the specialty restaurant?

Or do you tip at all?

Confused.

The $25 per person IS THE TIP in the specialty restaurants on the Millennium class ships (Millie; Infinity; Summit; Constellation). They will bill your "Sign & Sail" card. The food and service is wonderful. Enjoy - and have a wonderful cruise.

I agree with the posts above, the $25 is the 'tip' :)
We loved the speciality restaurants on the Celebrity cruise ships :)
Enjoy!!! :)

Re tipping at the SS United States restaurant: just returned from the 6/13 Infinity cruise to Alaska (absolutely amazing)and the$25 was not the tip. We checked with Guest Services on board and were told the gratuity would be automatically added to the bill and it was.(15%) It was well worth it as we couldn't have been treated more royally. (It didn't hurt that our party of 5 dressed formally for each dinner we had there in spite of different dress codes for the rest of the ship on those nights. The staff really appreciated it and it made the occasion even more special.

What Elaine reported is a change then, because we were informed by the staff that the $25 pp included the gratuity. You could add extra, and if you purchased drinks/wine/etc., there was a 15% gratuity add on for those things.

I will continue to treat the $25 as a gratuity when we dine there.

Everything I have read and from personal experience the $25 is to cover the tip to the staff. If you order drinks or wine, then you are charged the 15% on that.

You may be right about the extra tip applying only to alcolhol with dinner but Guest Relations didn't ask if we had ordered any when we called to inquire about the gratuity. Maybe they had the bill on their computer screen at the time and just didn't specify to us the nature of the extra 15%.
